Hi there. I'm Dr. Alec Kouros and I'm the instructor for this course, ECNI831. I put together a really short video to give you a better idea of who I am and what sort of experiences I've had. I'm really looking forward to this semester and really I'm very anxious to get to know you all better and hopefully I'll get to meet you very soon in the next couple days anyway, so take care for now and talk to you soon. I grew up in the town of Humboldt, Saskatchewan, which looks a bit like this. I was born to Greek immigrant parents. They had three boys and one girl. Their idea of Greece is something like this. Well, mine has always been a bit more like this. As a child I loved to read, and this is something that is still true today. As with most children, I entered formal schooling at the age of five and when I think about it, I've never really left. I went to St. Peter's College and the University of Saskatchewan to complete my Bachelor of Education. My first job was teaching on reserve at a First nations residential school. And this really is where I fell in love with teaching. After a few years of teaching high school, I went back to get my Master's of education. Meanwhile, I continued to teach with various institutions. A youth correction facility with the government of Saskatchewan, Saskatchewan Institute of Applied Science and Technology, and the Saskatchewan Indian Institute of Technologies. I currently work as a professor in the Faculty of Education at the University of Regina. I am also the Assistant Director of the Saskatchewan Instructional Development and Research Unit. At some point I met Claudia and we were married. I have two beautiful children, Rayne and Lex. I play guitar. I love shiny gadgets. I podcast with my friends at the Edtech Posse and now I am here as the instructor of ECNI831. I love to teach you about tools like these and issues like this and to help you in this journey to see the merits of becoming a connected teacher.
