Dan Mall recommends six design systems books: Alla Kolmatova's Design Systems, Andrew Caldwell's Laying the Foundations, Jessene Perez Cruz's Expressive Design Systems, The Design Systems Handbook by Design Better Crew, Donella Meadows' Thinking in Systems, and Diana Macdonald's Practical UI Patterns for Design Systems.
Chapters
Here are the design system books that everyone's talking about that you should know. Design Systems by Alla Kolmatova is an excellent overview of the world of design systems. Laying the Foundations by Andrew Caldwell is another great overview of design systems. Expressive Design Systems by Jessene Perez Cruz gets into the specifics of how to be creative when it comes to your design system work. The Design Systems Handbook by the Design Better Crew at Envision is kind of an anthology of a few different topics and chapters written by people like Marco Suarez, Gina Ann, Diana Mounter, and more. Thinking in Systems by Donella Meadows talks more generally about how systems work more broadly in the world that we live in. Practical UI Patterns for Design Systems by Diana Macdonald is a book full of examples. Don't miss my next video. The Design System books no one's talking about, but should be.
