Anwar White argues that women, especially from earlier generations, have sacrificed their own needs for family, work, community, and church. He calls this a generational pattern that needs breaking, rooted in the belief that giving is how they express and receive love.

Here's what I want to offer to you. So many women have had to sacrifice themselves, especially in earlier generations, because they had to, that they weren't just giving to you as children. They were giving to their work. They were giving to their community, to their church, to their husbands. And they weren't giving to themselves. That they were doing all of this for other people, but they weren't doing anything for themselves. This stuff is generational. These are some of the curses that we have to break in 2022. So when I say you're doing too much, I mean it. You're probably doing too much for other people because you think that's what love is, and that's how you express love. But not just that. That's how you express love, but that's how you also receive love.
