A short YouTube monologue (uploaded March 1, 2025 by Anwar White) in which speaker Jessa answers the question "Have I ever been in the military?" by recounting an engineering-camp experience and ridiculing military-style regimentation (bed-making, lining up, needing permission to eat), concluding that dating a military person is like "dating a prisoner with a pension."
Jessa, were you ever in the military? Girl, do I look like I've ever been in the military? Honey, look at these hands. Honey, these hands are white collar.
I did do an engineering camp in the summer, and I realized that none of these people had an individual thought to their name. And I had to call my mama, even though I was not allowed to. My mom doesn't play around with me, so when she didn't hear from me in a day or two, she called the head platoon sergeant, director, whatever, and said, I need to talk to my son or I'm gonna fly out there. I'm on a wreck shop. So I got a call and nobody else did because, you know, I'm a little thing. They'll snatch me up in a minute, honey. So she was worried. And I realized, I looked around there. Girl, they had to ask permission to eat.
Girl, they had to square their beds. Girl, they had to walk like this every time you were in a corner, girl. Girl, they had to. Every time they were outside, they had to line up in a line and they had to count off. Girl, that's prison.
So anytime you're with a military man, and this is no shade, I just want to keep it real with you. You are dating and married to a prisoner, A prisoner with pension.
