Anwar White explains how overgiving in relationships often stems from childhood trauma, where giving felt like the only way to earn love. She recommends a weekly practice: give yourself treats simply because you're worthy, not as rewards, to break people-pleasing patterns and learn to receive.

Hey girl. Do you actually over give in relationships? Well, if so, that is generally a trauma response. And you may have been conditioned as you were growing up to think that when you do things or you give things, that people will love you. But that's not necessarily the truth. I want us to learn how to do it a different way. So I want you to actually start giving yourself treats. Treats are things that you give yourself because you are innately worthy of them, because you are you, not because you've done anything. When you give yourself something because you've done something, that is a reward. I want you to treat yourself every week so that you are starting to give to yourself instead of giving to other people. Once you give to yourself, you will actually learn how to receive gifts and giving from other people.
