Short monologue/advice segment by a speaker (Anwar White) addressing someone concerned about introducing their boyfriend to their father or overprotective friends. The speaker advises setting clear boundaries, communicating expectations for the meeting, and asserting personal agency about who meets the partner and under what conditions.
Okay. Missy Six said, my dad is coming to town. I don't know if I want him to meet my boyfriend. Why? If you don't want your guy to meet your boyfriend?
She said, I agree I'm very liberal, but the conservatives love me. They'll eat you up, girl. That's why I said, keep that radius wide, girl. Get into that west Texas girl. You'll be dating next to those windmills, Honey.
If you're afraid to have your dad meet your boyfriend, and this is what I will tell you, not just for parents, but also for those friends that are completely overprotective. I'm one of those friends. You're going to need to talk to them and set a boundary about what your expectations are when they meet your person. So you're going to have to be able to set that boundary and be able to say, okay, so when you meet him, here is how I want it to go. Here's the energy that. That would make me feel most comfortable. Are you able to do that? They say, yes, great. Y' all get to meet. He says, no, I'm just gonna do me, and blah, blah, blah. We're not gonna. We're not gonna meet. We're not gonna play that game. You get to have control over how you're treated and the environments that you're in. It's not like you're a little girl anymore, and you don't have agency or independence. Yeah.
