Short YouTube monologue (Anwar White) discussing why the speaker avoids focusing on formal attachment-style labels. The speaker emphasizes that healthy relationships foster secure attachment, advises people—especially women of color—that healing is gradual (not all completed before dating), and gives a rough breakdown of healing occurring 50% before dating, 25% while dating, and 25% within a relationship.

Someone said, what's your attachment style? I don't really talk a lot about attachment styles, because what I know is that when you're in a healthy relationship, that healthy relationship will make you very, like, will get you into a very secure attachment style. And that's what I want my clients and I want you all to focus on that most of us, especially if you're a woman of color, you're going to have traumatic parts of you, healthy parts of you, and survival parts of you. And, like, my job is to make sure that we're converting those survival and traumatic parts into healthy parts. You're not going to do that all the way in dating. Please understand that you are. There are parts of you that will heal in a relationship. Some of the girls are like, oh, like, I got to get my life together before I date. And they're trying to be perfect, and they're trying to be all healed. Don't do that, girl.
You gotta heal 50% of the way. Another quarter will be while you're dating. Another quarter will be when you're in the relationship.
