A short YouTube monologue (uploaded Feb 20, 2024 by Anwar White) in which a speaker reflects on how external validation—especially male compliments about physical appearance—affects women, with emphasis on women of color and intellectually-focused women who may be emotionally impacted by praise they did not receive growing up. The speaker criticizes men who focus only on physicality, characterizing them negatively.
Dee said, it's not your body, it's the way you talk about yourself and how you let men talk about you.
100%. Here's the gag. And this is what I was talking about a little bit before.
If you are a woman of color or an intelligent woman, oftentimes your hyper focus will be based on your grades and how well you did in school. And sometimes because you didn't hear you're pretty or you're beautiful a lot growing up, that when a man says it to you, even though intellectually you're like whatever, emotionally it actually touches you. And those guys that are hyper focused on the physicality of who you are are kind of like the lower, the lowest of the lows. Like no shade, but like the catfish of the sea, Right?
So no shade to the people who love catfish or tilapia girl. So sometimes this is why I work with smart women, because, like, you'll lean into that because this is something that you didn't necessarily get, but you're leaning into something that is actually not going to serve you.
