Anwar White argues that women of color are taught to stay small and invisible, but hiding 60% of yourself means being loved only 60%. She coaches clients to brag, be fully seen, and claim the space they deserve.
Butter Scott said you better brag, honey. I'm bragging, and I want y' all to brag. I think that a lot of women of color, specifically black women, don't do enough of it all. Y' all are the shit. And y' all people. You need to, like, live your life as if you are.
Y' all are trying to play humble girl.
Have you ever heard of a humble star game changer? No. And here's the thing.
If you are someone that's lgbt, native, black, Hispanic, Latino, it is literally, it feels like life or death to be truly seen. This is another thing that can make dating really hard, because you actually have to allow yourself to be seen, and you have to show all parts of yourself. But historically speaking, those that have stepped out, those that are truly seen, we were often punished by death, by violence, by abuse. So we actually will have a visceral reaction to wanting to be seen. But I'm telling you that I want you to do it anyway.
That's the work. That's what I help my clients do so that they can be fully seen, fully known, fully loved. If you're only giving 60% of yourself while dating, they will only know 60% of you and only love 60% of you.
