Don’t get it twisted, Ei isn’t about being weak. www.ineverworry.com

Emotional intelligence isn't weakness. It's choosing when and how to respond instead of reacting in the moment. The speaker, who grew up hot-headed, learned that handling conflicts privately and strategically, like playing chess, leads to better outcomes and clearer communication.

So listen, I know a lot of people think that I just go around life and just be letting stuff go. I know that sometimes you find it hard to believe, like, how could I just— like some of these situations I talk about— how could I just let that happen? Why won't I address this, etc., etc.? And I get it. It's just that the things that I used to trip off of I just walk over now. Coming from where I come from, right, growing up in the streets, I, I used to be a hothead, right? And I know a lot of people who got off where they got mad at. Wherever it happened at, it was going down right there. But also seen those guys pay a heavy consequence from performing in front of a studio audience. See, when you do things in front of everybody, then everybody has a perspective and everybody has an opportunity to get you caught up, right? And so in that space, I grew to understand that I could have a problem with you, but it could be handled at a later time, right? At a more appropriate time where everybody ain't looking. Well, let's put it this way. There's a difference between back in school, back when we were elementary, middle school, the person who wanted to try to fight in front of everybody and the person who was like, let's go to the back of the gym, right? That person really wanted to get down. Now, all I'm saying is that I understand that things makes us emotionally charged and we want to act on it in an extreme way. And that's what emotional intelligence is about. Processing that so that avoid letting emotions overpower my intelligence. So when I do choose to respond to something that must be addressed, the intelligent part is to make sure that I do it from a logical lens and not an emotional one. I'mma make sure that I'm playing chess. Not checkers in any situation that I have to handle. Emotional intelligence is not about living this warm and fuzzy lifestyle. That's not what I'm promoting. What I'm promoting is making sure that you protect your peace at all times and at all costs, that you increase the chances of having the best damn day ever because you only get one day at a time. That you get good at increasing the chances of having the best outcome in any situation that comes your way. Because to me, that's what life is about— getting really good at processing the things that come your way. So please don't get it twisted, and don't think that I don't have my moments where I check people, where I give direction, where I'm being stern, but I do it in a way where it doesn't disrupt and hijack my whole day. I do it in a way that when I have to address someone, that it's clear, because when you address somebody through an emotionally charged moment, they don't hear you in any way. So if the goal is to get people to hear and understand and get results, then I got to be in the best Space of energy to make that happen. So I want you guys to just receive this with love, right? And receive this with understanding that EI is not about letting people walk over you. EI is not about like, you know, feeling like you can't use your words or feeling like you got to hold your tongue all the time. It's about making your next move your best move, and you can take that one to the bank. Peace.
