A fire department leader credits Derek Bedford's executive coaching with changing how he leads. He learned to monitor his mood and reactions, realizing they shape the energy and outcomes around him. He now applies these shifts at work and at home with his family.
Oh, the benefit has been huge. Working with Derek Bedford has been instrumental in changing how I approach my leadership style. And I thought before I met with DB that I had what I thought was an effective leadership style, but I've come to realize just how much I didn't know and how much I can improve based on the conversations that we've had. And so as I think about things such as my mood plus attitude determines my energy, I've been very conscientious about the things I say and do and how they're perceived by those that I lead, those that are actually my peers as well. When I think about the situation plus my reaction determines the outcome, as an example, those things resonate with me, and I'm always keeping those in the back of my mind as I consider different situations that I'm confronted with as a leader in the fire department. But I also apply those things in my personal life. It's not just me using this professionally, although I've found tremendous benefit And using these things professionally, I think they're equally important, if not more important at times, when I use these in my personal life, when I'm interacting with my fiancée, when I'm interacting with my children, when I'm interacting with, you know, any number of individuals, whether they're strangers or people I'm familiar with. And so this, this one-on-one coaching has been tremendous for me, and I'm grateful and thankful that DB and I have this relationship where he's my mentor and I'm his mentee, and I'm able to actually bounce some things off of him, and then he processes it and feeds— gives me feedback that I find very useful in kind of reshaping how I'm approaching things in so many different levels. And so this has been monumental for me, and I encourage others who have an opportunity or an interest in learning more about the executive coaching that DB provides, take them up on it. You'll find that this is going to be very worthwhile, and I think not just for yourself, but those that perhaps work under you would benefit from something like this as well.
