DB argues that emotional intelligence isn't about being soft, but about responding logically even when emotions run high. Will Smith had better options than hitting Chris Rock on stage, and acting impulsively just amplifies the emotional charge. A discreet response would have avoided the public spectacle.

So here's my quick follow-up to the Will Smith incident. So there's people who appears to somehow believe that what Will did was gangster, and I understand why, because you're in an emotional state. What I'm trying to get you to understand, that emotional intelligence is not about letting people run over you, is not about being soft and having this warm and fuzzy lifestyle. It's about being logical about the responses, no matter what happens to you. People ask me, well, DB, what if it was your wife? What if it was this? What if it was that? The minute people go into that, I already know that you're trying to emotionally charge the situation. I seen what happened, and I spoke on it from an emotionally intelligent lens. That's what I practice doing. All that I'm saying is, if Will felt that Chris was out of pocket, he had the opportunity to check him so many different ways. This is my belief based on where I come from and what I do. Everybody is speaking from their lens. I get it. And this will be the last time I speak on it. It really has nothing to do with me just because I'm the EI guy. It was a great opportunity to highlight one thing. That when emotions are high, logic tends to be low. And I don't want to see people letting emotions overpower their intelligence. A lot of you want to keep trying to emotionally charge me by saying, what about this? What about this? What about that? What I'm telling you, that is how you're going to get yourself caught up in the future by trying to justify your behavior through an emotional lens. I am not saying that Chris didn't deserve to be checked if that's exactly what he was doing, making fun of Will's wife. Whatever the case, okay, the point I'm making, he could check Chris at any given time in any given place. It didn't have to happen in that moment to create the conversation that we're having right now. Now I gotta say, I see a lot of you guys Champion for that move. I see a lot of you guys talking about what you would have done. And the difference between me and those that champion the way Will handled that, which makes me think that that's how you want to handle things or would have handled it, handled it. The difference between me and you is that when you did that, everybody would have known that's what you did. The way I handle things, something would have happened to him and people will wonder, did I have anything to do with it? And that to me is
