The one question you won’t ask yourself

The speaker argues that asking yourself how you want to feel today is the question most people skip. Setting an emotional intention for the day shapes your decisions and how you show up for others, making emotional availability the foundation of emotional intelligence.

Okay, let me run something by you real quick. Imagine if you're on a team, whether it's a sports team, a leadership team, a work team. You are on that team, but you never get picked for anything. You don't get picked to play. You don't get picked to play a role in an assignment. You don't get involved in the decision-making process. I want you to be honest with yourself and ask yourself, would that feel good? Like, how would that feel to you? It does not feel good being— not being involved in the game when you're on the team. Well, if you can watch and hear this video, you are on the team of life, right? We are all part of this life, and life feels much better when you are participating in it, which is why it's important to become emotionally available as much as you can. Being emotionally available, I mean to yourself and to others, is very important in being able to practice emotional intelligence and maximize the best experience for the day. One of the secrets to be able to do that is to understand the importance of seeking clarity. Now, there's a lot of times in our life where we're just not clear. I mean, you ever ask somebody before, "Hey man, what you uh?" What you want to go eat? And be like, I don't know what you want to go eat. What time we leaving tomorrow? I'm not sure what time you think we should leave, right? What you want to do, right, for your birthday? I don't know. I ain't thought about it yet, right? There's so many times where we're undecided in life, and those that move forward in life more fluently seek clarity every single day. So let today be the day that you be intentional about being emotionally available for yourself and others by seeking clarity. So after you turn off this video, ask yourself, how do you want to feel today? How do you want your day to be? Where are you going in life, right? What do you want in life? And when you spend some time discovering that, then the rest will fall in place because you will spend your days moving towards the things that you want, whether it's a moment-to-moment decision or a long-term decision. But today, let's just start with, how do you want to feel today, right? I know I want to feel great. I want to be a beacon of light, and everybody I come in contact with via text, email, or in person, I want them to feel better about their day because we connected. How about you? How do you want to feel today? Peace.
