Hello, everyone. I'm Dr. Deanna Minick, and I'm so excited to talk with you today about three ways that you can reset your body. We all know how important it is to really feel good in our bodies and to not have things like symptoms or pain or just feeling low energy, right? If we have pain or if we feel sleepy or we don't really feel our best, it really changes the outcome of everything we do in a day. So I'm sure that at various times of your life, you have felt off, right? Maybe you just don't feel 100% in your body. Maybe you just woke up, you had a cold or a flu. But then there are some other things that are a little bit more chronic where you start feeling them every day. And I definitely had this for myself. I had a lot of gut issues. I had irritable bowel syndrome. I had endometriosis, and even developed an autoimmune condition in my early 30s known as psoriatic arthritis. So with all these conditions, I had to find a solution. And there really wasn't a lot out there on what I can do for so many different things. But what I later learned was that all of these things were in some way related. I decided to look at food, and that made the most sense because I have a master's degree in nutrition. I have a PhD in nutrition. And so with all of my training on food, it was the obvious choice to look at what I was eating every day. And if you tally up how much we are taking in on a daily basis, we make somewhere in the neighborhood of 200 different decisions about food and eating. And we take in about £2,000, almost 1,000 kilos per year. So food is truly information. It's feeding us on multiple levels. So what I decided to do in order to relieve me of a lot of these conditions was to look really deeply at what I was eating. So I followed what's known as the elimination diet, and I started taking things out. I took things out like eggs and soy and wheat and gluten and dairy and even reduced some sugar. And what I noticed was that I felt dramatically better. I really did. It wasn't easy to actually take these things out of my diet. It never is to give things up, right? I mean, that's one of the first things that you think of, like, I don't want to give up my coffee, or I don't want to give up my cheese or bread. And I know where you're coming from on that. But on the other side, I Just know how much better you're going to feel if you do try to give up those things. I mean, just giving yourself a certain time period in order to let those things go, to see how you feel, I think is really worth it. From my experience, I decided to do this with all kinds of different people. So working with clients, thousands of different ones, running them through various programs, where we eliminated these things from their diet and then added things back to their eating that were healthy and full of color and vibrant, we also changed things up a bit because many people get into food ruts where they're eating the same thing every day, and this doesn't serve us, even if it's really healthy food. So I worked with them on multiple things, and what I saw was similar to my case. Many people feeling a lot better. So they felt better in their bodies, they released a lot of their pain, their lack of energy. They were sleeping better. And one of the biggest things that people complain about is just not being able to concentrate, having kind of a fuzzy head. And that improved, too. There were multiple things. If I look at the data that I've collected over the years, it seems like people improve in all the different categories of bodily health, everything from gastrointestinal symptoms to joint pain to sleeping and cognition. So I do think it's worthwhile to really look into following a particular dietary regimen that can really relieve you of a lot of symptoms. And in fact, you know, you may be thinking, well, gosh, Deanna, that all sounds good. And I know of the power of food, but, you know, it's just not the right time. You know, I've got weddings coming up. I've got graduations, the holidays. How am I supposed to give all this food up when it's going to be around me all the time? And you know what? I completely understand there has to be a level of commitment which really drives you into having that momentum with a particular colorful diet. So what I think might be best is, is, you know, you can plan it, but, you know, really and truly, life always gets in the way. And I think it's just you make do with what you have. I don't think we have to be perfect. And in fact, that was part of my issue, too, is having to be perfect about food all the time. It's just not realistic, but you can try your best. So during this time, where there are lots of different gatherings and occasions, you know, you plan ahead, and that can easily be done. The other thing that people think about when following an elimination diet is, well, Goodness, what if I feel worse? What if I don't have the energy level because I'm giving up my caffeine and my sugar? What if I feel worse and I can't perform at work? You know, I've seen that time and time again where people think, oh my goodness, you know, I'm going to radically change my life by doing this. And what I will tell you honestly is that within that first seven to ten days, when, when you start making these changes in your food, you will start seeing a shift. And initially it won't be so easy. But once you get over that seven day hump, usually people have a burst of energy. They're actually able to focus even better and they realize how much they were relying on all these different foods and beverages to give them the energy that they didn't have. It was like a bottomless pit. So I really do think that, you know, initially, just like with any change, it's going to have some adjustment that we have to get used to, but once we're over that hump, we will start feeling better. I've seen that with thousands of different patients over time, over several years. So let me just do a quick recap on the takeaways for you on how you can reset your body. Number one, first and foremost, I think it's important to eliminate maybe one thing. You, you know, you don't have to follow the elimination diet in its entirety because that's giving up a lot. But maybe find one thing, pick one thing that you really like, maybe that is very difficult to give up, maybe it's sugar, and see if you can go just for seven days, giving that up or reducing it and see how you feel. Track your progress in a journal. The second thing that I would recommend to reset your body is to start to include more colorful whole foods into your diet. So many times we think about what to take out and that always feels like a withdrawal. But we also have to focus on what to put in because that's equally important. So bringing in the rainbow every day, I really love color. I think that bringing in colorful foods is the way to go. And there's so much good science on the power of colorful plant foods to help with many different chronic conditions. So start to bring in more colorful plant based foods. The third, third thing to help you to reset your body is incorporating more variety. What I have found working with thousands of people is that usually people get into a rut. They make the same five to seven recipes every week. They're eating the same foods and some of those foods can even be really healthy. But all in all they need some variety and I've noticed that for myself sometimes I get into these food ruts. I'm eating the same things and I don't want to have to think about food but bringing in just a little bit of variety. So maybe on one day you've got a certain red food, maybe it's tomatoes, the second day maybe it's raspberries but you're still getting that color. So shake it up. I think that this is really important for helping to keep us healthy. So what I'd love for you to do is please comment on this video. Give me your thoughts about these three tips that I've given you to reset your body and I'd also like to hear from you in terms of what you find resets yourself. And then in the next video I will talk more about three ways that you can reset your mind. So join me then. Thanks so much.
