Hi, everyone. In this video, I want to talk about the three ways that you can reset your emotions. So by this time, you probably have already listened to my other two videos. The first one was on the three tips to reset your body. The second one was on the mind 3 tips to reset the mind through various thought strategies. So I thought I'd save the toughest for the final video. I've struggled with emotions all my life. I've always been very emotional, very sensitive, very reactive to certain things, especially growing up in my teen years, and have always felt that I'm one of the first people to get stressed and react to a situation. So I almost had to find ways to help me to survive and to become much more emotionally fit. You know, many of us don't even think about emotional fitness. We think about physical fitness and mental fitness, but we don't think about the importance of emotional fitness. And this is one of the factors of longevity. So I want to share with you in this video three of my top secrets for regaining your emotional health so that you don't cave to pressures and even to things like emotional eating. In fact, it's been estimated that over 75% of overeating is due to emotional reasons. And this is what got me in trouble growing up, is because I didn't have these emotional strategies in place, I would seek comfort from food, so I would go to things that I knew that I shouldn't be eating. Things like sweets and ice cream and processed foods and salty snacks and chips, rather than actually feel those emotions in my body. I also developed a number of physical complaints that I believe in part were probably due to the lack of my ability to really process my emotions in the best way for me. So I'm going to go through the three tips that I believe will help you. I've worked with hundreds of people, thousands of people, actually, on using these strategies for emotional eating, as well as just getting into alignment with your own emotions. So, again, I know it's going to be tough to start talking about emotions because we really don't want to get into that space. Right? I mean, who really wants to talk about emotions? We'd rather talk about the weather rather than talk about our emotions. But let's dive in because I think I can make this pretty practical and pretty easy to do without feeling overwhelmed by your emotions. So the first tip is to identify what you're feeling. And so one easy gauge is just to check in on a daily basis throughout the day with how you feel. And for most people, they don't really feel their emotions. They kind of think their emotions. So when you ask them how they feel, they might say things like, oh, I'm focused or I'm concentrating. I'm really in the spirit of being hyper vigilant about something. Well, those aren't really emotions. That's more the talk of the mind. So in order to really connect to our emotions, we have to speak the language of emotions. And I feel like a lot of us have lost the lexicon of our emotions and what it means to actually even be emotional. So now this doesn't mean that we have to get all gushy and tell everybody about every emotion that we're ever having, because that would be to the other end of the spectrum. But what we need to do is just simply, number one, identify our emotions in the moment. And the more readily we are apt to do that, the science tells us, the more we can find solutions. So it's almost like becoming aware of what you feel and you don't have to belabor it. You don't have to get all sticky into the sludge of your emotions. Just quickly, how do I feel right now? Is it happy? Is it sad, Is it mad, or is it glad? And further from those type of generic emotions, what's really underneath all of those? Am I sad or am I really depressed? Am I disappointed, or am I bottling up some anger? So really to kind of get into that and first and foremost, again, identify those emotions. Most people are just not used to identifying their emotions or they just kind of go with the flow of, you know, just what everybody else is feeling and not really acknowledge their own. The second tip for helping you with your emotional health is to track your emotional patterns. You know, we do this with food, right? And I talked about even doing it with your thoughts. You have to know what you're thinking in order to get in there and make any changes. The same thing goes for emotions. Whatever we're feeling has to be brought to the surface. We have to start looking for patterns and trends. So I have a very easy tool to do that because I can already anticipate that some of you are not too pleased about having to track your emotions and kind of make friends with your emotions throughout the week. Right? So I have a very easy inventory of all the different emotions. I've listed about 20, and I call it an emotional log. So you can just at the end of the day, like a checklist, much like your to do list, you just go through and you figure out, well, what did I feel today? And you can check as many as you want. So that emotion log comes as part of the whole detox program that I do. It's also in my whole detox book. It's a great tool. We've had a lot of great feedback on it. And in fact, we've used it for programs before and have shown that when people are tracking their emotions and what they know, when they actually feel things, they're better able to make choices. So they may not cave to those food cravings. They may get out and exercise instead of just kind of sitting at home and slumped and kind of in the wallows of those emotions. So track your emotions. See what you're feeling most of the time. Is it. Are you pretty content? Maybe you know, you're feeling pretty good most of the time. And that's also something to acknowledge. I don't really see emotions as positive or negative. It's all about the response that they have on our bodies. You know, if we're in this state of constant elation and happiness, we could also feel pretty revved up with lots of adrenaline. So emotions are personalized. And so by tracking how you feel, you'll get a better sense of where you spend most of your energy and whether or not that's a good energy investment for you or not. The third tip for helping to reset your emotions is actually to feel your emotions. And I know that a lot of us don't have the time to feel our emotions. We're so busy with everything, right? It's like, who has time to cry or to even spend time laughing or to have. Have time to be angry? We don't have time for that kind of stuff. We're on to the next thing on our to do list. We've got to go from work to home. We've got to pick up kids from school. We don't have time to be emotional. Even though we are emotional beings, we're really emotional. So here's what I would suggest. I would suggest creating an emotional date with yourself in order to feel. If you're a super busy person like I am, and you're probably thinking, there's no way I have time to feel my emotions, what I like to do is actually schedule it in. Have five minutes at the end of the day, like at 7pm where you just say, you know what? I'm just going to shut the door. I'm just going to process. I'm going to write in my journal. I'm going to go for a walk. You know, whatever you choose to do in that five Minutes to just be with your emotions and how you felt is really important. When we don't feel our emotions, we run the risk of getting them stuck somewhere that can get stuck in our minds, where then we can start having these negative, reoccurring thoughts. They can get stuck in our bodies, and maybe as a result of that, we start having pain or symptoms, things like irritable bowel syndrome or inflammatory conditions. So we want to move them through us. Emotions. Look at the word emotion. E. Energy in motion. These things need to move through us. They need to flow. So feel them and let them come through. And what the studies show is that you don't want to have too much volatility with your emotions. So, you know, I'm mentioning feel your emotions, however, put them through a little bit of a filter. You know, work with them to the extent that you feel comfortable with that process. Because when they have overtaken us, sometimes it can be overly controlling and we kind of get on this rampage, and then we might hurt a lot of people around us. There's that happy balance of not being too volatile and not letting those emotions stuff within our bodies and our minds. But we have to let them out. One of my ways that I like to feel my emotions and to let them out and to let them flow is. And this is different for everybody. But I like painting. I like just something really chaotic where I'm not thinking. I'm not thinking about my body. I'm really in that moment of emotions. Maybe I'm listening to music while I'm painting or drawing, or maybe I'm dancing and it's four minutes to a song, or maybe I'm singing. It's something that really provokes our creative expression. So I would encourage you to find something that you really like. And, you know, you don't have to be a professional artist. I can almost hear you saying, well, I'm not an artist. It's not like I can just go and paint on a canvas. And you don't have to be an artist. You can just get messy. You can be messy in the kitchen and chaotic and, you know, just have fun. I think that's such a key element of what we're missing when it comes to our emotions. You know, if we think of when we felt a lot of emotions, especially within our childhood, and how we express them, they just kind of came bubbling up and they were expressed. And maybe we stomped our feet, maybe we yelled, maybe we went for a run, maybe we gave somebody a big hug. Whatever it was, we kind of let Those things move through us. So whatever it is, maybe you go swimming, maybe you go for a walk, but let those emotions come out. Make time for them. So let me just summarize the three tips again to help you to reset your emotions. And again, I've heard from so many of you how important this is and how also difficult it is. So number one, identify what you're feeling, make sense of that emotion, give some language to it. Number two, track your emotional patterns. What do you feel most of the time? Is it anger? Is it sadness? Is it happiness? Is it elation? Is it contentment? There is such a wide range, a spectrum of emotions, and through the whole detox emotion log, you can start to make sense of which emotions you're feeling most of the time. You'll get a lot of perspective on yourself. The third tip is really to be and feel that emotion. Feel it in your body. Get used to when you have certain emotions, you know where it's going to affect your body or your mind. Are you going to start ruminating in your thoughts? Are you going to have a busy, palpating heart? Are you going to have a queasy gut? Where do emotions live in your body? You know, be with those emotions, Let them express so that they don't take on a life of their own. And you can do that through creative expression. So I hope that that helps you. My three tips for resetting your emotions. And if this has been helpful, I'd love for you to comment on this video. You've done so well in commenting on the other videos, the one on the mind, the one on the body, and I'd love to hear your thoughts on this one because this is a very challenging topic. I realize that it's not an easy one, it's a process. But if you follow these three steps, I'm sure it'll help you to better navigate the terrain. This gushy, watery terrain that's so hard to make sense of sometimes. And perhaps we don't need to make sense of it at all. We just need to be in that place. So if all of this speaks to you, these three videos, the body, the mind, and the emotions, when we work on those three, we start to align our spirit in a different way. We become a different being. We really transform our lives. And that's what my whole detox program is structured to do, is to reset your body, to reset your mind, and to reset your emotions. And so that your spirit is renewed and revitalized once again. I'd love for you to join our 21 day online. Whole detox program coming up. It starts October 1st and it goes through October 28th. And I can already hear you saying, well I don't have time in October, I'm too busy. I've got weddings, I've got events, I've got school. There's never a good time for a program like this. There's always going to be something going on in your life and what I have seen has worked for people is that doing something small can ripple through the extent of your being. Whether you do something small for your body, you do it for your emotions, you do it for your mind. All of it is significant and can have lasting effects. So I hope that you'll join me. Make sure you check out the website. Feel free to sign up, ask us some questions if you need to. I'd love to connect with you further and I really want to thank you for being a part of this video series. Thanks so much.
