A short explanatory YouTube segment (speaker: Deanna Minich, PhD) defining "medical foods" and highlighting a specific medical food, UltraMeal Plus 360, positioned for metabolic syndrome. The speaker lists the product's formulation—soy protein base, plant sterols, a modified hop extract, Acacia nilotica extract, plus vitamins and minerals—explains intended mechanisms (reduced cholesterol absorption, improved insulin sensitivity), and states the product has shown efficacy in two clinical trials.

So a medical food is a specially formulated product for a specific clinical condition. So there are a number of medical foods on the market currently, and these you would get through a health care practitioner. So you'd have to go to your doctor or health professional in order to find out what medical food would be good for you. So there is a medical food that we have studied extensively for metabolic syndrome, and it's called ultra meal plus 360. Ultrameal plus 360 contains a whole host of different nutrients that simply address the different pathways that are responsible for metabolic syndrome, kind of bringing those back into balance. So the base of ultrameal/360 is soy protein. And we know that soy protein is very beneficial for helping with reducing markers of heart disease, for improving body composition. And then layered onto that soy protein base, we also have plant sterols. And plant sterols are simply plant compounds that block the absorption of cholesterol. In addition to those two, we also have targeted phytochemicals or plant compounds. Specifically, they are a modified hop extract and also an extract from a tree grown in Asia and Africa called the Acacia nilotica tree. And so we've taken an extract from those two, put those into ultrameal plus 360, and those two together act as potent insulin sensitizers, helping to get the body's insulin balance back into regulation so that the body can handle glucose better. So the, in addition to those four very powerful, clinically powerful things, we also have vitamins and minerals added. So, so it's a whole host of, again, different nutrients that are focused on reducing the markers of metabolic syndrome. And we have shown in two clinical trials to date that it is effective for reducing these markers of anabolic syndrome.
