Feras Alhlou advises early consultants to stop undercharging. Build case studies and testimonials from your first projects, then raise prices once you can reliably sell and deliver. Avoid free work except for nonprofits.

For the first couple of projects, don't worry too much about money. Don't offer anything for free. Maybe for a nonprofit it's okay. People, in most cases, people won't value something that's free. I want you to have a public case study, or I want you to speak with me on a webinar about how great of a consultant I am, how I helped you solve your problems. So that is the thing about undercharging. I wouldn't want you to worry about it too much early on, but once you have a few projects under your belt and you've delivered and you're confident in your ability to, to sell and to deliver, do not stay in this zone of undercharging.
