Day 39-Building a Personal Brand for Designers-100 Days 100 Skill Booster Sessions

Jagdish P walks through personal branding for product designers, especially early in your career. He covers building trust online, staying consistent on social media, and practical steps to speed up your career growth.
Just a second. Welcome guys. Welcome to this skill booster session in the morning and yeah, so a lot of people have also joined new in our YouTube live. Let me also post the link for you guys so that it is. It is much useful for the people who are in the groups as well.
Okay?
And give me a minute. Give me a minute. Give me a minute. Give me a minute.
Foreign.
Hi guys. I welcome you to join here. Link has been pasted. Today we are going to see building a personal brand for product designers, okay. Particularly for refreshers. Super. So we are super excited now and we are get to about to get started and just a second. And I'm posting in one more group also guys so that other people will also can join without any problem. With that being said now we are starting up this session and give me a second. Yes guys, welcome and Happy Diwali to everybody. Also for the people who are watching live there. So today we have a very interesting topic today, okay? It was in fact it is a pain point also. But more than a pain point, it is a mandatory requirement, okay? It is not like you are struggling in that problem or you are about to struggle or not. No, this is a topic if you are listening for the very first time, you will have to learn it. That's it. That is very, very important for now and particularly in this day and age, particularly in this digital era. What we are having after this pandemic, the kind of digital presence what we are having is very, very high. Every, every people has one or the other way a digital presence. And also the searchability and findability of the people is now becoming like very high. In fact more than the more than before. People first trust you based on the social presence, okay? Even for the brand designed for change, people when they sign up for a program, they do a lot of testing first like is this guy available in the YouTube or maybe any of the social media platform is a trustworthy. What is he doing? What is his website landing page? Something like that, right? So people do check it and we do have LinkedIn substack blog and we have this YouTube live going on from 6 to 6:30. So many factors are there. But for a designer perspective, what is really required? What does mean by brand? If you ask me with respect to the branding for designers, I will tell you in what context. I mean branding is important for you, okay? And why it is important for you and how you can build it step by step, very, very simple steps. I'm going to tell you guys, okay? You have to take a notes because this is all going to be implementation steps. If you are following this implementation, I mean if you're following this and you're implementing it, I'm telling you this is going to make you at least 10x grow faster. But it will not make you grow tomorrow itself.
Okay?
It will not make you grow tomorrow or day after tomorrow itself. It's a seeding.
Okay?
How much time will it take when you seed something as a farmer, it will take a lot of time, right? It will take at least two to three months for that seed to germinate, nurture, grow and yield you the fruits. So social media is like farming, okay? It's not like hunting. Whether you go and then you hunt and then you eat. No, social media is a game of farming. But for that you need to have consistency and patience and purpose. If you don't have purpose, why you're coming in the online space for putting out some content over there, it is ultimately waste of time. You don't have to do this at all.
Okay?
I'm telling you this with a caution and I'm also helping you out with this information so that you can get started.
Okay?
Just a second guys. Hi Subash. Hi all. Happy D. Subash. Happy D. Happy Di. Happy Diwali. For the people who have joined in the YouTube live, people who are there with me in the community call. Thank you so much and just a second guys. I'm just calorie. Yes guys, I want everybody to switch on your camera. Since this is a very special occasion. Just come and show us and wish this entire world Happy Dibavali. People are going to watch it maybe in this live video or people are going to watch it after two months or three months we are not sure. But let us make a mark that since being a Dibavali we woke up early in the morning and then we are learning something very useful for a design career and particularly we are going to learn something called building brand for a designer. So switch on your camera and also help others also punish while they come inside, just help them switch on their camera.
Okay?
With that I. I made you co host also. Pish. Okay, fine. Punish mean. Am I audible? Sir, you're audible. I'm making you co host. Somebody comes, you can able to help them join or help them switch on their camera.
Okay.
You can also give the permission. Good. So we are in the day 39. What is this 39 Jagdish. Like people might be little surprised. See I have taken a mission for teaching 100 skills for 100 days. In YouTube live till December 31st.
Okay.
And the point here is after this month we thought of putting this entire thing in the public, but we are actually asked to put it in our unlisted format. The reason being it can be available for the people who are very serious and they can learn.
But.
But for now we have kept it public so that at least people can join and people can learn and people can take an advantage. But what happens when it is available open source? People don't value it that much. Right?
So.
But I don't see you guys like that. I see you guys are very serious and very, what you call focused towards learning something. So take an advantage. Before this videos goes into our unlisted. In fact, we have lot of videos which is there in our unlisted YouTube channel, Private Channel.
Okay?
If you have that link, only you can watch. But there are certain videos we have kept open so that public can watch. Take an advantage.
Okay?
And also with the same caution, don't watch each and everything available in this channel. That will confuse you a lot. First of all, have a start, clarity and then align with your mentors or accountability, whoever is guiding you. I'm telling you, okay, don't do it alone. This field is completely not allowed to start alone. You will be lost. You will be like, you will never come back.
Okay?
You will go into utter depression and frustration. Second is once you get the clarity, then you start moving in the steps. Once the steps is clear, then you will know what gaps you have. Once you know the gaps, then you can bridge this with the skills. This is how you have to learn. Just open some video, watch randomly. It is. It's going to be a waste of time for you guys.
Okay?
Yeah, I know. A designer needs 149 skills to be learned. That doesn't mean all the skills needs to be mastered. It's not required.
Okay?
So you have to know what is really lagging and for your interest, passion, goals, what is really required at this moment to get into an industry start. You're already in industry. I want this advanced skill. Learn it. I'm already learning advanced skill. I want leadership role.
Learn it.
There are three categories of people in design for freshers who are already starters, who are accelerated, like let's say they, they want to scale up.
Okay?
Three people are there. And your learning curve also depends based on that. So choose accordingly to spend your time. Because if you are coming with me, what I would highly, highly suggest you is don't spend unnecessary time in unnecessary things. Spend few hours of your Day on right things. That's enough. If you take it complicated and do lot of things and get overwhelmed. I am sorry. So a lot of people think I need to have a three years design degree to get a design job. I want two years of experience to get a design job. We have broken all of these codes in our program. A lot of people who don't have degrees are getting 13, 15 LPA.
Okay?
A lot of people who don't have experience have joined the job in just 90 days. This is four months. Just three months. It's all about you, what you think here.
Okay?
With that caution, I'm just starting with the skill booster session. See guys, this skill booster session is for particularly this personal brand, right? There are two categories of people. One is freshers and experience. What I'll do is I'll teach freshers here.
Okay?
Experience. We'll see some other day. It's not required now, okay. Because it takes little time for me. First, what is the skill? Building a personal brand for a fresher is very, very important, guys. Why? First of all, it makes you unique.
In the market, okay?
And it helps you build lot of connections. You will not have a lot of opportunities at the start of your career. Networking opens a door for growth. Okay, Jagdish, why it is very important. I'll tell you guys. First of all, when you are creating an online opportunity or interview or anything, your credibility and trust needs to be very important, very high at the start of your career. People would love to see your authenticity. Like let's say I'll take an example of Tilagar. Okay, everybody please switch on your camera. Guys, it will be more fun when you switch on your camera and pay close attention and be attentive here.
Okay?
If you're. If you're having some other work, I would request you to go and do that. That's waste of time for both of us.
Okay?
Yes. So the moment when you are. When you are building a trust by showing the authority. Hey, I'm Jagdish. I have a website, a personal branded website through which every single day I'm posting blog articles for designers. Look, instead of telling I am aspiring UI UX designer. I am having passionate to user centric design. Putting these lines in LinkedIn. Do you think people will trust you? Everybody is having the same lines only in LinkedIn.
Okay?
Copy paste from Google. I don't know where you're. You guys are taking at least chat. GPT will give you different lines.
Okay?
People are not even copy pasting that. I don't know why. Okay, let's leave that. Fine. So putting this generic sentences and expecting jagdish. I'm applying in LinkedIn. Nobody is hiring me. Nobody is calling me back. Why will they call you? What trust have you built? What authenticity have you put on? Okay, so the reason why I'm talking about this topic is people don't know or people are not aware of this topic. Why personal branding is important. See, people are not even comfortable to share their faces in the camera, in the zoom camera for them. What kind of a future can we expect many of our students? I'm saying in the call, in our inner circle call also in our major workshop call also, majority of the people don't like to show their faces. I'll tell you why. Because they are not enough confident and they are not very confident about showcasing themselves. What if something goes wrong? What if I misspell this? What if I tell wrong answers? What if I make some mistakes in the online right Fear of getting started. I will tell you what will happen if you are not making mistakes. You cannot become perfect. If you wanted to become perfect, you have to make mistakes. If you want to become super perfect, you have to make blunder mistakes. How many of you resonate with what I said? Type R in the chat box. People who are in the YouTube live as well as here in the zoom room, type R in the chat box. 120R. 120R. What is that? 120R. Okay, so if you wanted to make a blender, if you, if you're making a blender mistake, then you will become blender. Perfect means super perfect. I'm saying. Okay, so everything starts initially. I'll tell you some steps here in this video, okay? In this class. But you have to implement it. I know it will be difficult. You'll have to make mistakes. You'll have to show sometimes your video, sometimes you're off, sometimes your voice, sometimes your text, sometimes your grammatical mistakes. Everything will be shown in the online public, right? You can read my blog articles and you can listen to my earlier podcast and all. There would be a lot of mistakes. But now I'm doing it very proficient. The reason being I'm doing it consistently.
Okay?
So my case is just different. You guys are not content creators, okay? You guys are not doing it for any content creation or you're not a YouTube channel, what you call media evangelist, okay? You are doing it for a different purpose. You are doing it for your personal brand. I will tell you why this is a no more secret for the industry people in each and every industry, people have a growth. Like let's say even if you are one month old in your industry, you are having some growth. One year, one year old, two years old, three years old. It doesn't matter what amount of years you're old on, okay? It all matters what kind of a brand you establish for your organization. Like let's say if people are talking about you. Tagar. Okay, what Tagar is? Ah, that guy sits in the corner. He makes some screens. Yeah, yeah. This guy doesn't talk. I know him. ET okay, imagine same figma screens you also. Hey, I know that guy. He's very active.
He.
He g. He conducted one live workshop know that day for the people. Yeah, he's very active in this Instagram. He puts some reels and all. Yeah, he's like into fitness. He's into music. I mean his music tracks are very. What you call very, very energetic here. I like his music playlist actually. Yeah, he draws some sketches and all. He used to post in his seat. I saw him. He's very active in LinkedIn. I think he has a lot of connections. See people when they are considering promotion for both Tilagar which Thilagar they will consider. Both Tilagar are doing figma screens only is no difference, okay? They are not doing any magical skills and all. Okay, Which Tagar they will consider for promotion? Or maybe a new project is coming.
Okay?
They want to give for the other teammates but both Tagar are there in front of them. Both are having same skills only. So which Tagar they will give?
Tell me.
Tell me.
Guys.
Type out of the chat. Why Telegram itself is asking answering that question. So you itself know this is a mistake, right? Okay fine. So the point here is branding is very very important, okay? Not unnecessary flashy branding but needed. Let it be any designer. Guys, you are from graphic design, product design, ui, UX design. It doesn't matter, okay? You're going to learn that. So why the skill is important? I told you it differentiates you from the competition. Competition in the sense among your colleagues, okay? Promotes your growth, recognition supports long term growth. This is most important. Guys, I will tell you if you're building authenticity trust by showcasing that you are authority for design people when they hire you as a fresher they will think this guy is not joking around. This guy is not worth for just 3.25 lpa. This guy is capable of doing some more things. See, let's say imagine. I'm just giving you a small example, okay? I'm not asking you to do that. I'm just giving you an example. Imagine you have a podcast channel.
Okay?
In fact, one of our students said this. He wants to start a podcast channel. Two of the students did in our program.
Okay.
In that one guy said, jagdish, I want to start a podcast channel where I have to put information what Nielsen Norman Group is putting. You know, Nielsen Norman Group is one of the top design knowledge in the world. Okay? I would say the top three design knowledge in the world. They are producing a lot of content, blog articles, podcast and all these things.
Okay?
So he said in our local language in India, nobody is like that. I want to create a podcast similarly like that. But I wanted to add a value in design. The moment when he creates this kind of a podcast and when he shows that in the interview, do you think they will treat him like a fresher? Do you think the trust factor is zero? Do you think this guy will be asked a lot of questions? No. Interviewers are going to give you a job only when they trust you. How fast you are able to build the trust, it's up to you. Either you tell in your communication or you showcase some proof or you get some credibility or you show some testimony of your earlier customers talking about you. You tell anything, whatever builds trust faster. If you are not able to build trust faster, it will take a lot of time for you to get hired with the people. If you understood this, type T trust in the chat box. Trust is the winning factor.
Okay?
Write trust, don't write T. Write trust in the chat box. If you understood what I said now.
Okay?
Yes, yes, yes. Thank you guys. Thank you so much. Thank you so much. Thank you. Punish. Thank you Tilagar. Thank you Hasnain. Thank you. Thank you Jain. And yes. So Manikandan, thank you. The point here is trust, okay? It supports you in the long term. What are the common mistakes to avoid? People are creating some kind of a content or people are having some website. They are very inconsistent. They don't know what to create, how to create. You don't have the publishing frequency in your chat GPT in your codex document. People who are inside our program, I'm saying okay. Outside people may not know this. It's very difficult for you to tell, okay? But for the codex people, today you guys go and type after all of the three codecs you filled, okay? You put okay chatgpt according to my profile, goals, mission and value. Could you suggest me what kind of a branding I have to create for myself? You just put this prompt. You will see the magic Coming Because I have asked a lot of questions for you guys to self brand yourself. Also if you go and watch your earlier questions you will be knowing because we have already fed the AI engine with the super questions and descriptive answers. Okay? So people are filling new this codex document. I would like you to feel as descriptive as possible. Because the more descriptive you give, the better answers you will be able to get in charge. AI engine works very differently guys.
Okay?
If you just like that ask simple questions, ChatGPT will not give you any kind of an answer.
Okay?
So use that carefully. The moment when you give that, I'll tell you what kind of a branding it will give you. Second, ask one more prompt. Could you give me the schedule for the next 31 days? How I can able to use this to get my dream job? Already Chat GPT knows what's your dream job.
Okay?
It will exactly produce a 31 day content for you. What to do on the day one day two day three and you will see the magic coming. How many of you would like to demonstrate it now? Punish your your screen is open now. Tilagar, you have completed your codex, right? Has you completed your codex right? People are I think Manihandan. You have completed a codex right? People, whoever has completed your codex, just go and give this simple prompt.
Okay?
I'm just giving you a small heads up.
Okay?
Based on my profile, goals, missions and values, please provide a branding strategies. What I can do being a fresher. Okay, this is the first prompt, second prompt to achieve my goal in the next three months. What kind of steps should I follow from this? Branding steps. Whatever you say. Give me a 31 day game plan. That's it. It's a very simple language. Okay, I know this kind of a prompts will definitely work because I've used hundreds and hundreds of times and I've seen this output. Okay, please go and apply here. I'll just pasting in the chat box. Use it copy paste. Use one one prompt at a time.
Okay?
Don't use two at a time and you will see the magic coming in front of you. Because everybody branding style is different. Guys, if I say create website it doesn't mean you'll have to always create website. If I say you create podcast channel or LinkedIn blog, it doesn't apply for everybody. You may have a different interest. See like let's say you're very interested in photography. Punish is very interested in photography. He's a very good visual design capturer. Okay, let's understand this way. I would say you build a Brand. You create a consistent online profile with respect to only photographies. Because you're already interested and you're passionate about this, right? So you should understand what has really been a passion for you and what has really worked a lot for you. You'll have to understand that.
Okay?
If you are not understanding that, I will tell you what happens. You'll be just force fitting random stuffs. It's completely waste of time. Don't do that. We are not doing it just for the sake of count, okay? We are doing it for the purpose of branding ourselves. Very, very important skill.
Okay?
So don't force fit. That's what I'm. That's what I'm trying to tell you. Yes. Yes.
Yes.
Subhash. Trust. Thank you. Thank you. A lot of people have joined in the live as well. Thank you so much, guys. Fine. So second mistake. Overlooking engagement. Branding is about interaction and relationship. No. Don't expect something will happen for you.
Ah.
100 people will subscribe my channel. 100 people will interact with me. 50 people will give me job interview card. That is not going to happen.
Okay?
We are doing it for seeding farming.
Okay?
I told you social media is farming. It's not a hunting game. Farming will take a lot of time to get you results.
Okay?
But you have to do it consistently. If you're not watering the plant, what will happen? Plant will die.
Okay?
So you'll have to. I've seen many people having LinkedIn post. LinkedIn account. They have only one post. I will tell you the SEOs also behind this platforms. Okay? Just wait for some time.
Okay?
So try to appeal to everyone. Focus on ideal audience. Stay authentic.
We'll.
We'll talk about it.
Okay?
In. In the name of creating some random content. In the name of creating some content, don't create anything random. Be very specific for what you wanted to say.
Okay?
I will tell you step by step. First of all define a create bin. Defining a unique value proposition. Think about what is. What is the purpose you wanted to be on online?
Okay.
Okay. I'll ask you. Each and every one of you one question. Type out. What are the one reason you wanted to brand yourself?
Type out.
I want to know first of all in this room, what is your requirement? First see if I'm a fresher. I'm just giving an example.
Okay?
If I'm a fresher, I would say people has to look at my profile jagdish and they have to give me an interview call for job hiring purpose. I'm having the personal branding.
Okay?
Let's say I'm just giving you an example. So what is your intention? Can you please tell me? Don't type Job. Job type out. What is your real requirement? Okay, think about it and answer. Stand out from the crowd. Excellent Muthu. Okay, what is your outcome being standing out from the crowd? You tell me that. That's what I want. I want everybody to type out. Guys, people are watching the YouTube live. People are at the Zoom call with me. I want everybody to type out. See guys, if you're typing out only can able to help you understand this in a even more better way. Okay, type out. In the chat I'm not able to see any answers. Only one answer has came so far. Only one answer has came so far. Anju for you the link is available. Anju in the group you can join from the Zoom call so that you can interact with me live. If you want to ask questions at the last open your mic, you can come there. Fine guys. So type out one reason you wanted to build a personal brand. I told you the importance now. Okay, so tell me one reason why you wanted to build a personal brand. I wanted that. Okay. Punish is fairly saying. I want job simple. Okay, I. I think Muthu is also slightly outcome is job. Am I right Muthu? Or you have some some other intention? I've seen many people. Guys, see one of our student, okay. He started a podcast channel already.
Okay.
He's not doing it for job. He's doing it for improving his communication. He's very bad at English.
Okay.
He asked me what should I do. Jagdish, I'm not talking very properly and I'm sometimes getting fear. I don't know how to talk. So what I'll do is as a mentor I'll try to balance your equation. See whenever we are having something as a negative we have to put a lot of positive into it and balance it out. Then we'll become neutral.
Okay?
So he's having every day this negative thought. I'm not talking properly. I'm not talking properly. I told you start a podcast channel every day. Has to record five minutes of content. Anything. You talk whatever you want. You talk personally. You talk design, you talk whatever you want.
Okay?
Jagdish, what if it goes wrong? I told him you are not doing it for yourself. You're not doing it for others. You're doing it for your improvement. Whether somebody listens or not, it doesn't matter. We are not influencers like Gary Vee. Gary Vee has millions of followers in Spotify and Apple. We are not doing it for that purpose. Okay. So this guy started and he has published close to 10 to 15 episodes in design.
Okay.
Imagine in the interview when he talks to the recruiters. Hey. Hi, I'm Shantila. I'm a fresher. I have a UI UX experience, completed a course. I have a case study. This is my case study. If you're interested, please hire me. Sir, this is one category.
Okay.
Second. Sir, I can. I mean I can do your projects well. Sir, I am very good in product design research. Sir, I'm very good in creative ideation. Sir, I'm very good in this design process and thinking. Sir, I'm excellent in doing your projects in one or two days itself. You give me a design task, I will complete it. And you can look at my portfolio, my case studies there. Please hire me. Second guy. Okay, third category. Hi sir, I'm Jagdish. Okay, see not saying more than design as a passion. I would like to say I have a podcast channel or maybe I have a LinkedIn blog or I have a website or I have a like let's say any kind of social media presence. What you wanted to say? Hi sir, I'm having this and I'm solely helping out small, small businesses in design. How design thinking can help these people grow a lot. I like particularly to help medical industries and fintech industries. And I'm writing every single day a lot of blog articles for the small business owner. Why design thinking is very important now and how this businesses can benefit. See, your organization is also a small scale business, right? I'm definitely fitting your role. Why don't we have a conversation in the zoom call. Why don't we have an interview? Who will be selected out of these three guys? Obviously don't type third one. Okay, tell me why the third one will get selected. Did you understand what I said? Now everybody, did you follow? Guys, whatever I said now I'm not seeing any chat. Hello guys, am I audible? Okay, fine. So I'm asking you a question. Who will be selected? I told you about the three categories of people, right? Imagine if you're a fresher, you will be in the same situation.
Okay.
The third guy does not even talk about his case study or project or skill or anything. But he told something else. What is that? Why is he better than the other people? Come on. Manikandan, Anju, Faisal. I would like to know from you what is the reason these people, These people. I mean what are the reason this third guy will be hired? Or maybe if you are saying this third guy will not be hired. Tell me why. Either way you have to answer me. Simple. Okay, tell me. Tell me. Muthu, I would like to know your answer. Because you also recently said you wanted to start some initiative, right? You can open your mic and also talk. What do you think is the reason why you wanted to be a standout from the crowd?
Say more about myself to the recruitment.
Like I can show the podcast so.
That they will know my interest in the field.
That's great. Okay, fine. Your voice is echoing. We can't clearly hear you, but I got your last few lines. Okay, fine. So Moneyandan is saying shows value without even speaking. That's great. Jayanandani is saying third. He's focusing on small organization as a whole. Small organization as a whole. I could not relate to what you're saying. Okay, see the third guy, why he's. I mean, why he's very relevant. I'll tell you. He is talking about his authority. Being a designer. He's not a fresher who runs away after three months. Okay, so why HRS don't trust you? Being a fresher to give you a job. Because they don't trust you. You. You will run away after three months. You will do some kind of a joke.
You. You.
You will. After two, three months you will also say design is not for me. You will also do a substandard work. So why would they risk you, right? Being a. Being a hr, you should also think about it this way. Okay, so how do you break this barrier? By showing authority. If you have the moment, if you have a blog article or a podcast or anything, something which is more passionate on you, that tells you that you are very congruent on your niche, your interest, your passion. People will not doubt you. The next thing is they will think about how you are relevant for you.
Simple.
They have already hired you on the first round, second round. They want to understand how you're relevant. And you are also given the answer for that. They are small business scale owners and you being a design thinker are going to help. Obviously they need people to come inside and work for them.
Right?
That's why they're hiring. Why would they hire you? I mean, why would they put you in an interview? Do you think it's a time pass? They wanted a people, that's why they're hiring. You don't give a chance for them to get rejected. You have to provide that opportunity by saying, hey, I'm a design thinker. I know many business organization is not Having design thinking. They're just doing some trading business. Trading business. But if you use design thinking, you will know a lot of needs of the user. You can able to perfect the product. You can able to bring user center to the design and then the same product can be sold to more people and more people will buy again and again and again. Because we are exactly serving what people want. This is the power of design thinking. So why don't you look at my case study now? Why don't we have an interview call now. See, you're helping the business as well as you're branding yourself. This is most, most important. Guys, if you understood what I said now for the past few minutes type of you, you guys are going to rock and roll this entire design career. If you understood what I said now. Okay, let's go for implementation.
Wait, okay.
Understanding is first important. Then we'll go for implementation before this newest starts. I'm telling you people, if you are Anju. Wait, I'll explain you Anju. Okay, maybe you have joined little late. So and we're talking about branding. We're talking about why personal brand is very important and why using the personal brand you can able to build a trust with the recruiters faster. If you build the trust with the recruiters faster, you can able to show your relevancy of the skill to get you hired faster. Okay, like let's say your interest could be somewhere in design research or maybe your interest could be in visual communication. So you will have to show a brand which is leading to visual communication. It is very good to have an Instagram pitch. If in that case you can show some posters, some pictures, some graphics, some visuals and you should always keep on posting some kind of a consistent content over there and also show, hey, you can look at my Instagram profile, you can look at my blog article. You can see how much contribution we have did. And I'm still continuing to do that. I'm passionate, I'm damn passionate to do it. You should talk with that kind of a confidence and you will see the moment when you establish this mindset and start attending interview. A lot of people will hire you. They don't, they don't care about what, how much projects you have in your case study or portfolio. I mean that's 5 to 10% guys. People think that is 90%. No, that's not required. 5 to 10% is only portfolio.
Okay?
For Nam Kevas, that's it. But 90% to 80% is first initially building that trust and understanding you better. So that is why I'm telling you have a personal branding channel. We talked about micro learning in the earlier classes and all. And now I'm telling you, in this pandemic, particularly after this digital era, social media presence is very important inside your company. Also when you're hiring, being as a fresher, also two categories are there, okay? If you're already a designer, it's very vital to build a brand. In fact, I would say that is more more important because when you are a designer, you will know everybody's doing the same. Figma screens. Okay, Maybe you'll start in a small organization. People will only ask you to build screen. Don't think you will do a lot of research, this, that and all. People will try to use you as a labor first. Unless until you found a value matching organization which is a true sustainable, fair exchange job, you will only do some labor job initially.
Okay?
But when you find a proper organization, you will know you have authority to play over the product design process. You will have a chance to talk with your customers, with your business managers, with your CEOs and you will also have an understanding of how this process can be tweaked in order to deliver output. If you have that kind of a role, super. If you don't have it, branding will only help you guys in a company, you should first dress yourself properly, you should groom yourself properly, you should be very disciplined and consistency come on time and leave on time. And you have to go overboard to work and you will have to definitely have a podcast channel or a YouTube channel or maybe a small kind of a blog article or maybe a personal branded website. Minimum, have a website and always put it to your friends. Hey, can you give me a feedback? You can always put some status of your of your good messages. What you're posting, people would like to see. Hey, what you're doing in design, I can see that you have written something about design thinking process. What is that? Hey, yesterday I learned something new about a process like something like, which is more of behavioral design, which is like micro interactions for people who are emotionally triggered. So for personality based we are doing some kind of a learning and I've applied there. My mentor has taught me, I've applied there. You know what? I've put some three to four micro interactions over there and soon I'm going to implement it in our project also. That's a great learning. Your boss is also going to see your status. Your subordinates is also going to see you the status. What they'll think, they'll think this guy Is a continuous learner.
Okay?
This guy is a continuous learner. And this guy is very keen towards taking up challenges. When we give a new challenge, this guy will take up See, the trust is built like anything. If any new project comes, if both people are working in the same figma, figma, screens, figma, you will be valued more because you are a constant learner and they will give you new challenges. You will see people who are in the job like let's say in job special. I also recorded a course called Branding Design.
Okay?
And you will see it surprisingly coming. So branding design is very, very important. Branding design is not that branding your branding. I'm saying, okay, you need to know what kind of a colors is suitable for you. You need to wear your dress accordingly. You should always put your website with those colors. You should always have some kind of a liking towards certain graphics. So you should establish your brand language and style. Guys, being a designer, if you're ultimately doing that, you will see slowly, slowly people will get attracted to you. If you can, if you want to create logo for yourself, you can do that. That's a great thing. Okay, I'm not asking you to everybody to build logo. I'm just asking you if it resonates with you. Build it. Don't force fit this, okay? Just because Jagdish is saying don't force fit it. Think about what is going to work for you and then build it up.
Okay?
I'm just giving you, okay? So you can reflect on your strength. Ideally your ideal audience. Whoever is your ideal audience. Like let's say you wanted to cover your hiring managers. Typically for a fresher, that would be a target market.
Okay?
If you're already in a design job, it would be your managers or your subordinates craft a clear brand statement. Always have a very good brand statement for you. What you wanted to do, don't tell. I am an aspiring UI UX designer who is looking for a fresher job. Every behance profile has that here. Don't do that. Please remove all the sentences from your any LinkedIn profile or Behance profile, whatever you have. I mean, I'll tell you, you are ruining your career just by using the same words.
Okay?
One of my student recently, she did a mission statement, okay? She said I am a constant learner, a design thinker who is on a verge of inventing a new design law. This is her LinkedIn summary. Do you think people will get attracted to this or do you think people will get attracted to. I am aspiring UI UX designer Who completed a course, look, looking for active jobs, who will be get hired? Think about it, okay? I know who will get hired. You guys know who will get hired, okay? And make sure you have a consistency in your brand language, okay? Like let's say if your LinkedIn page, your blog article or your podcast or anything is there, if you're using this blue consistently, use the blue consistently. Try to create that, okay? So in fact, if you can see a lot of our courses, program materials and all, it will have the same brand language. If you go to a learning management portal, the call to actions button will be little orange and red, okay? Because I like energy, I'm a more energetic person, okay? I wake up in the morning, I sleep 11 o', clock, I'm blink, I'm more energetic. I wanted to reflect that in energy. I wanted to put that in the call to action, like that, okay? I can't do zoom anything, guys. Zoom is like consistent platform. They are having their consistency, but to our extent we can have in our platform. If you see the logo, it's like black and whites. Because I want people to be very neutral. A designer needs to be very neutral. I want everybody who's coming into this program to be neutral, to be symmetric, to be balanced. Because creativity, questioning, both needs to be in a balance. Then and only you can design products. If you're too much abstract on creativity, if you're too much questioning, questioning, questioning, you will not be a designer. So that whatever I'm messaging inside for the design community, that has to reflect in my logo, that has to reflect in my brand language, right? So you have to think about what is the purpose you have come as a designer here and then you build your brand, create and share the engagement content. Like let's say you can also show some small videos. In the last week for our community people, I showed you how you can create a video in minutes using the power of AI. How you can create a small 30 seconds video of your project, case studies, post it in LinkedIn, how you can interact with people through that. How we can engage with many recruiters and designers out there and start asking for referrals, start pitching for jobs, start pitching for yourself. So it's very, very important and very easy, guys, okay? You can use LinkedIn for networking. You can can showcase on visual platforms like Dribble, Instagram, okay? And try to promote it. Don't just keep it for yourself. Use the language that reflects personality, incorporate some emotional triggers and align with your core brand value, okay? If you're not yet a Brand, Please create some brand. What are the confidence boosting techniques? Celebrate some small wins. Gather some testimonies. Ask about any person who talks about you. Who says like let's say, hey, your information has really helped me. Very valuable, Faisal. Thank you. Take that screenshot, put it in your website. People are valuing my content. Okay, Put it in your behance profile. Put it in your something. So that is actually a great technique to start with. Okay, so practical demonstration. How do I do practical demonstration? It takes a lot of time guys, but I'll tell you.
Okay, this is like.
This is one of our earlier thing. Okay, fine. So student draft unique concise statement. First of all in this activity mean in this class, I'll ask you what is the one line or a message you wanted to tell to this world for your audience?
Okay.
Many people have typed I am looking for standing out from the crowd. Many people typed out I want looking for job. Many people typed I wanted a social presence like for your internal message. What is the one line you wanted to tell to the world? Jagdish, if I have to put this line in my LinkedIn Behance, everything. What is the one line you wanted to put? I want everybody to type out. Guys, I want everybody to type out that word for me. Can you do that? I will tell you what is what is okay. What is not okay. I want to type. I mean, I want you to type in the chat box. Okay, don't go and Type in your LinkedIn profile and I'll just type here. First. Let me understand a very, very small line. Okay? There is no judgment. Feel free to type. What are the one line you wanted to resonate with this word? Being a designer, I don't have any kind of online. At least think now. When are you going to think if I. If I'm not making you think now, when will you think? I'm telling? I'm asking you by scrolling in YouTube and this Instagram feed. You're not going to get that mission by slowly closing your eyes and thinking what is the ultimate purpose? I wanted to become a designer. Truly, after five to ten years, what kind of a value add I wanted to do for this field and for the people around me. You wanted to only build websites or you wanted to drive traffic through your websites, or you wanted to build lot of a social media currency by your design so millions and millions of people has to use your website or you wanted even illiterate people to use your website by creating it so simple and so special and so engaging or you want to create a website where dumb deaf all special able people can also interact with your website. And your website wants to be number one ranked in India for the e commerce website. For the e commerce sites. What is the mission you wanted to create? See, there are varied level of people. I told you. Okay, just a starter. Okay, fine. Superb. I want to become the master blaster of it. So what is the one line you wanted to show? That's what I want. People have typed adding my perspective to ideas through intuitive design. This looks little generic. Punish be more specific. Okay, try out more. What about others? Guys, guys. I want everybody. Don't write stories. Just one line. I asked you one message, one line. Okay, don't type out stories here. Try to concise it very simply.
Okay.
Yes, yes, yes, yes. I'm also looking at the YouTube live. Let's understand these people mindset is everything that's okay to showcase different in resume than others. Okay, so what about Subhash? What about Kamar? So write out that one line. What you wanted to type what you wanted to promote yourself into the world. Could you please type out that? I wanted that to actively. See guys. Okay, see we are coming to the end of the session in next few minutes. Just type out your one line. I just wanted to see how you guys have observed it as a designer impact society Using my design skills very generic.
Change it.
You will not get hired when you put like this. I want to put my effort in cryptocurrency and somewhere in going on trends little. Okay, Anju, but modify it using cryptocurrency. What you wanted to do, don't tell. Using cryptocurrency, I'll be a trend rider. Go deep. Using the cryptocurrency I can able to bring the cyber security theft of financial management to a whole new different level. I wanted a zero cyber financial frauds to be happened using my cryptocurrency design thinking skills. Rewrite it. Whatever I said now try to rewrite it. Okay, I'm just giving you an example. My design products are usable by all people with even disabilities. Good, but make it little tweak. Faisal, give some numbers I wanted to impact. Like let's say you can take on statistics Also how much people are disabled across the world. Dumb, deaf, blind. Okay, they're also. They also want website and mobile app to be used, right? They are also like us simple. So I want to impact at least 50,000 people to be used to this product for doing their everyday activities. Okay, Maybe they don't have any website for them to do the everyday activities for their learning some purpose. But you are building a very special WCAG guidelines website which is dumb deaf. All the people can able to access it very clearly. Imagine 50,000 people are going to impact by your website. Write that ass. Write that. This is how people will be able to connect with you guys. I am an aspiring UI UX designer. Again some kind of alliance is coming like that.
Okay.
There is no difference between these two lines. Whatever I said, you know.
Okay.
Money literacy rate is 27% in India. I can bring to 57. Write it as a statement. Mutuk, you are projecting a statistics. Okay, 50% better compared to the earlier on what you typed out now.
Okay.
Rewrite it properly. Feed the need. Through this you're writing some punchy lines. Okay good. But make it more connective. Punish little generic only make it connective. Okay fine. Simply things for every users with emotional. Simple things for every users with emotional touch. Okay, better. But make it little connecting to the audience who wants to get emotionally touched. What kind of a simplicity you wanted to bring? I will convert complex fintech data EC into intuitive. That is superb. That is 60 70% better. Manikandan, can you make it 100% better? Think about your mission statement guys. See I'll tell you your entire design journey starts from that.
Okay.
Ultimately if you have a clear goal you will be able to write your mission statement. People who don't have a clear goals they will feel difficulty to write this design statement.
Okay?
Again goal setting is a very very deep subject. I. I need at least one or two hours for you to teach what is goal setting. But that leave it.
Okay?
For now try to write some sentences.
Okay.
I will convert complex fintech into easy intuitive design. So you can tell something like this man.
Okay.
You can write something like this. Imagine a world where everybody is able to transact. From the age of 3 till 100 we have created a simple mobile application and I am the co designer behind it. Would you like to experience it? Click the link below to watch my website. You can put in the demo in the bio itself. Simple. You can create a question and a curiosity over there in your summary. Nobody will leave your website just like that. The moment when you put like this people will have a separate respect for you.
Okay?
Yeah Muthu, you're typing again that. No. Write it as a statement. Muthu go to your. Go to your chat GPT also put these lines and ask what kind of a mission statement should I put for this? The rephrasing will automatically Happen. I'm also telling for everybody, guys. Okay, try to use that. It will be definitely helpful for you guys. Okay, so what are the activity for students? I already told you, you can also create some kind of a brand. I'm just asking you a clarity statement now, but you guys are putting it. Try to create a very good font color, a type face for it, okay? And then you choose a medium. Whether you wanted to create a blog article for it, do it. You want to create a podcast for it. Podcast. Until now it's very simple, guys. Open a YouTube. How to create a podcast channel. Hundreds of videos will come. Watch one video, just implement. You have to create a free account on Spotify. Switch on the microphone, start talking, publish. That's it. You just have to add a small description. That's all. Podcast is required.
Okay?
If you want to create some kind of a LinkedIn article you can create. You want to create some kind of reels you can create, that's okay.
Okay?
If you want to create some kind of a Facebook post, you can create. So whatever is comfortable. If you want to create a WhatsApp status.
Okay, create.
It doesn't matter. Whatever medium you choose, you have to create something.
Okay?
If you want to create one week once content design, do it. You want to create two times weekend, do it. Whatever is your comfort, do it. I'm telling you ultimately if you're creating some kind of a social media presence and a message, people will resonate with you. And that message should be very relevant to whatever you're typing now.
Okay?
Don't talk anything randomly there, okay? Think about and talk about only design. Design Design thinking skills or design skills which is related to fintech. Design skills which is relating to bringing complexity, bringing simplicity. Talk about design in a more simpler language. Talk about more financial based mobile applications, whatever is there in India. Talk about one day how this financial management applications are being used by businesses, used by people, used by large corporates. How people can with with disabilities can use this. How people are illiterate can use this. So talk about this, think about it and you become more clarity and you become more clear in your topic.
Okay?
So that's how it is done guys. Okay, so thank you so much guys. We are coming to the end of this session. I want to give you few statistics also why it's important.
Okay?
70% hiring managers value personal branding. I told you, right? Consistent brand increases your visibility by 23%. And consistent neuros, I mean consistent colors font increases your memory retention. People will remember you a lot. Why we Remember certain brands like let's say Nike Tick, Apple, Byton, Apple Black. So these colors, the symbols, these icons will get registered a lot for us. Okay? That's a neuroscience behind it. Okay, you can use Canva, guys. It's a very good tool to create all these messages. Okay, you can use Behance Dribble, but just promote it. Don't just tell, I have a Behance account. Okay, you can use LinkedIn, you can use Scheduler also to schedule your podcast or anything like that. Okay, there is something called Buffer, There is something called. These are all the platform which can be helpful to create. You can also put some articles in medium. You can also create some reels, some videos. Using power of AI, you can able to create small, small videos for your case studies and promote it to all of the recruiters. Send it an email, put a voice note.
Okay?
Instead of typing out email lines, why don't you attach a voice note? It will be very different, right? So you try to create yourself a differentiation so that people will resonate with you faster. Okay, fine. Guys, we are coming to the end of this session and people have not yet registered for our webinar. Very simple, it's already addressed, but if anything is new, let me know. I'll definitely research myself and create a content. Because for me, I'm not having podcast for publishing myself. I'm having a podcast channel for addressing some of the pain point what student has. That's my intention. Simple, right? You need to have an intention first. Okay, so what is your intention? You want to get hired, so create content accordingly. I'm not looking for recruiters to create podcast mean for that purpose.
