UIUX Designer vs Developer | help me guys

Jagadeesh P., a product designer with over a decade of experience, breaks down what UI/UX designers and developers actually do and where they clash. Designers do research, wireframing, and prototyping using tools like Figma; developers turn those specs into code with React and JavaScript. The real friction: designers want time to polish, developers want to ship fast, and 34% of developers spend significant time fixing bugs instead of building new features.

Welcome to this YouTube channel. Thank you for staying tuning in here. Design for Change this is Jagdish. I have 10 years of experience in product design and UI UX design so far and I did close to 73 plus projects in my career and I've been teaching product design and UI UX design and mainly problem solving for the students in this particular channel. You can see a lot of other videos also, but today I have a very interesting topic which is basics. What is ui? What is ux? What is the product designer goal? What is the difference between a developer and a designer? Because a lot of people have misconceptions developed over the time and don't have the clarity. If you do openly type in Google, if you Openly type in ChatGPT, anything, YouTube, you'll find some videos. But this one video is going to ultimately give you what they're doing, the developers and designers, how it is very important and how to even play over different roles to empathize when you're working in an organization to understand the cross functionality. Okay. Because if you're not understanding this, you will develop a lot of frustration over the time. You will develop a lot of fights and egos with all of the people whom you're working with. Unless until you are not understanding this, you will not grow much in your career path. Because your career growth is dependent mainly on the soft skill what you develop, interacting with the other team, empathizing with what they do. There's nothing wrong to be this guy, that guy. Everybody has an equal role to play when it comes to launching a product. Okay, with this, we'll get into this. Okay, so the very first thing is I told you about the introduction, what we're going to do about it. Okay, so UI UX role has a different responsibility, a lot of research. UI UX designers mainly complete the entire project by starting with the research end to end. They understand what are the user requirements are, they understand what are the needs are, they make extensive research to get like they do surveys, they do interviews, they do a lot of online methods or offline methods, field study over the time. They understand the needs of the user and then they will also develop the perfect and also they will create wireframes and prototypes, which is very crucial based on that. So designers use software like Figma Sketch, Adobe XT in order to create them. Okay. They also focus on aesthetics, definitely it's important. They also focus ensuring that interface is actually visually engaging and make sure the functionality is met properly. That is the major, major alignment of what a UI UX designer is there. Okay. The skills required is actually they need to have a very good eye for the aesthetics. They need to understand the Gestalt law. They need to understand the heuristic principles. Then and only they can able to create that functionality and aesthetics in a very proper way. They need to understand type and grid spacing element. They need to understand the vis visual spacing element of positive negative spaces. They need to understand harmony. They need to understand symmetry, balance, rhythm. Because they will only know how to create the elements if they understand these basics. Okay. And they need to enroll user in order to make it intuitive. And also they need. Sometimes they need technical skills, but not extensive coding like let's say HTML, css, Java and all. But they need to understand little bit what is this core skill is about. Okay, Majorly they use Sketch Figma. I already told you that. Okay, so Spotify user interface. It's actually a user interface which focuses on easy navigation, visually appealing interface and also which is enhancing the user experience in a greater way. Okay, you need to get this clarity now. The basics of the UI UX role is very clear for you. You need to get this understanding. Someone who is a developer, you need to empathize. This is what a designer does if you are a UI guy. If you're a UX guy, you need to understand the next section carefully. What are the. The major responsibility the developer is to implement the code what has been given and what has been taken out from the input of the designer. If you're opening a FIGMA file or if you're opening an Adobe XD file, you will find a HTML code and ES equivalent code which is available for the designs, what they made. Let's say the color code, let's say the graphics in which the people have designed, let's say the text, let's say the layout. Everything has been coded in terms of HTML css. Nowadays the softwares are pretty much helping you to get this guys, you don't have to talk a lot of things with the designers. You will also get it. Okay, so design vision to the life they are most important. They use HTML css, Java framework like React, Angular. They use lot of software in order to bring this out happen, okay? And they ensure that application is functional, it's responsive across all the devices and browsers and mobile apps. And also they troubleshoot whatever fix, bug, fix is happening, ensuring the software runs smoothly. Most, most important functionality to understand what a developer does, okay. And what all the skills required. So they require a problem solving skill, particularly to understand complex Coding into a simple language. And also even small error can cause a significant issue. So precision is the key. They need to be having an eye to detail or the entire software will crash. It's very important. Okay. And also they need to collaborate with the designers in order to make sure the final products are met. They use Visual Studio code, they use GitHub, they use debugging tools like Chrome development tools. So Airbnb's development process is one such example. They work closely with the designers to ensure a seamless user experience is happening. So if you're someone who is a developer, you need to get this clarity. Okay, so what are the common differences between these people? See, the common scenario is lot of times designer will say, I need more time to perfect the user flow. Developer will say, hey, we need to ship the feature, but we need to ship this feature yesterday, which is already gone. So designer will focus on more of aesthetics. I need time, I need perfection, I need this. It's actually not good. And developer will say, hey, not knowing the timeline, he'll say, hey, it needs to be done already. Why are you not there? The alignment should happen between time trade off and the aesthetic beauty to make the product really good. Then and only the product will run seamlessly. See in a study found that Adobe 42% of the designers with deadlines often compromise design quality. So both needs to be taken care in line. Okay? And also designers focus on aesthetics a lot. They think aesthetics, aesthetic, aesthetic. Bird. Sometimes too much graphics can slow down the screens. Too much graphics can slow down the particular mobile app or web page. You need to understand this. A study by Nielsen Norman found that performance optimization can lead to design trade offs and highlighting the importance of collaboration. So you need to get this clarity because it's a trade off again, end of the day. Okay, and why does a button look different on a mobile? So designer will question that. But the developer has this. It's a CSS issue. Let me fix that. Let me work on it. So this is why the empathy is very much needed, guys. According to a report by stack overflow, 34% of the developers spend a significant amount of time fixing a bug, emphasizing the need of the continuous testing and feedback. So these are all the traits, what do you call? These are all the traits which when you're working in an organization, you need to get the clarity or else what happens is you will be in a different track. People will not understand what you're doing. So the trade off between the timelines, the design and the bug fixes makes the entire user interface. Really, really good. Okay, so now having seen the common scenarios where the developers and designers will overlap, now let's understand how is the collaboration and teamwork is very important. Like let's say, scenarios could be fine, but unless until you are not able to collaborate with them properly, there is a lot of opinion comes in. There is a lot of bridge needs to be gap. That's why the developer and designers always keep fighting. There is no end to it. Okay, so understand this very carefully. It is very vital to communicate clearly what you intended to say. It is a vital bridge between the gaps. There is nothing else. In fact, this is the most, most interesting thing, even if you have all the hard skills, but if you don't have this soft skill, you will not.
