Most Effective Way to Scale your Dog Training Business in 2026

Jacob Morgan tells dog trainers to stop selling cheap single sessions and instead offer high-ticket packages like a five-session program for around $1,000. This filters serious clients, prevents burnout, and lets you actually scale without trading more hours for money.

Your calendar's full. You're running from a walk and train in the morning to a puppy consult at lunch to a reactivity case in the evening. You're getting inquiries, you're booking sessions. You're busy. By all accounts, you should be successful. So why are you constantly stressed about money? Why does it constantly feel like you're working harder than ever just to tread water? Why are you exhausted, almost burnt out, and starting to resent starting the business that you once loved? I'm going to tell you why. It's because you've fallen into a very dangerous trap. We call it the low ticket trap. You've become a commodity, trading your time for money. And it's a game you'll never, ever win. Today we're going to break you out of that trap. We're going to diagnose why your business model is broken, give you the exact steps to fix it so you can finally build a business that gives you both financial freedom and time to enjoy it. So last week I was looking for a new series to watch on Netflix and I asked a couple of my friends. I actually asked Chat, GBT and Google. And the same series kept coming up over and over again and it was called True Detective. If you watched it, it, you'll realize how good it is. If you haven't watched it, you probably should now. So me and my partner, we sat down and we fired up the smart TV and we're looking for this True Detective. We're checking Netflix, Apple tv, Prime Video, so on and so forth. And we come across it. It's on Apple TV and first season, you have to pay for it. And I heard the first season was the best season. So I paid 18.99 to watch season one of True Detective. Truth be told, I get through the first two episodes and it's not that good. It's pretty slow. I wasn't really vibing with it. However, since I paid for it, I committed to episode three, four, and so on and so forth. Now, if I had not paid for this series, I would have stopped at episode two, turned it off, and probably want to watch some bullshit like Love is Blind. But since I had committed up front and watched episode three, watched episode four, it was one of the best. Like it really picked up. It was one of the best things I've ever watched. And so that's the analogy I always give my mentees when we talk about selling packages instead of sessions because as we know as dog trainers, maybe the first couple of sessions, they might be slow because we're doing some of the foundation stuff and transformation happens. Maybe session three, four, five. And just by having our clients commit to a higher ticket program, maybe the first couple of sessions are a little bit slow, but because we've got a level of commitment, just like I did to True Detective, we're going to then take them past that point of comfort and deliver that life changing result. So let's talk about that today. For months, maybe even years, you've been telling yourself, I just need more leads. You've been chasing more followers, more website clicks, more inquiries. But let me ask you this. What good are more leads if your business model can't convert them profitably? If you get in three, five or even ten leads a week and you're still struggling, your problem is not lead generation. Your problem is your offer. You're selling small two, three session packages for maybe a few hundred dollars or pounds. You're letting clients dictate terms because you're operating from a scarcity mindset. And I promise you, it's absolutely fucking killing your business. This entire model is built on one single limiting belief that I hear from almost every single dog trainer I work with. Sounds noble, doesn't it? Every dog is different. This dog only needs two sessions to fix the pull in, so I can't in good conscience sell them a five session package. This belief, while well intended, is the anchor that's holding your business underwater. It's based on a fundamental misunderstanding of what we actually sell. We do not as dog trainers, sell sessions, we sell transformations and solutions. Is a dog that pulls slightly less on the leash and barks at 5 in every 10 dogs instead of what was previously, previously 9 and 10 dogs. Truly a transformation. Or as a transformed dog, one that can hold position past other dogs, hold the downstay while you have a coffee and ignore distractions at a busy park. Those extra sessions you're afraid to charge for, they aren't extra. They're a crucial part of the process, the generalization process, and that's in those last couple of sessions, is where you create a truly bulletproof, reliable dog. And in these programs is where you deliver a result that's so fucking powerful that your client becomes a walking, talking billboard for your business. By selling single sessions, you are not doing your clients any favors. You are doing them a disservice. You are giving them a band aid and what they really need is full surgery. And ultimately you are robbing yourself of the income and testimonials that come from delivering a complete, life changing result. So how do we Fix this, we stop selling sessions and we start selling a complete high ticket program, a transform package. Here's your starting point. Create five sessions of a core program and start at any price near $1,000. And I know that number might scare the shit out of you, but stay with me. A five session program gives you the time to do a very thorough job. It allows you to cover the foundations, tackle the core issues and then crucially, spend two to three sessions on generalization. In the real world, you're not just fixing a problem, you're building a lifestyle. This model does two things. First, it filters out all the uncommitted clients. The people who want a magic wand. For a hundred dollars they can go elsewhere. Good. They were going to do the work anyway. The clients who invest in a higher ticket program are committed to the process. They show up, they do the homework and get incredible results. Second, it makes your business more profitable. Instead of needing 20 low ticket paying clients a month, you only need 5 or 6 high ticket paying committee clients per month. You do better work for better clients. You make more money in fewer hours. And that is the definition of scaling. And what about all these other bullshit services like walking trains that are eating up your calendar? You need to raise your prices by 25%. That'll shed the clients that are looking for the cheapest option which will free up your time and energy to focus on the high ticket training clients who are actually building your business. This isn't just theory, this is your action plan. Step one, Stop selling single sessions today. Remove them from your website. The only way to get one to one is now through your program. Step two, Define your five session transformation program. What does it include? What's the outcome? What is the price? Price is based on the value of the transformation, not the number of hours. Must remember that. Step three, raise your prices on your distraction services. Any service that isn't your core high ticket offer needs to either become significantly more profitable or it needs to go. This is a mindset shift and you have to stop thinking yourself as a trainer that sells sessions and start thinking yourself as a consultant that sells life changing solutions. Your clients aren't paying for your time. They are paying for a decade of peace of mind with their dog. If you are tired of being busy but broke. If you are tired of endless hamster wheel low ticket clients, then it's time to fix your offer. The leads are there, the clients are there. But they're just waiting for an expert that can offer them a real solution, not just another hour of their time. This is the exact transformation we specialize in creating inside our mentorship program. We help other trainers just like you restructured our office, build a high ticket package and implement a sales system and back end selling systems to finally scale their income and get your time back. If you're ready to stop being a commodity and start being a consultant, hit the link in the description to learn more about the program. Stop trading your time for money, start selling transformations.
