Jacob Morgan built a multi-six-figure dog-training business and argues that earning more money is essential for delivering better service and avoiding burnout. He shares his trajectory through key milestones: $10K, $20K, $50K, $100K, and $200K months. I think one of the worst traits of a dog trainer is the fact that they all virtue signal. They're more concerned about saying the right thing than doing the right thing. Let me explain. When I talk about making more money as a dog trainer, people immediately think greed. They think immoral action. They think reduced quality. We're not putting dogs first. All the normal shit that people who don't know how to make money would naturally think. But I need to explain something to you today. The amount of money you make directly correlates with the impact you intended to make when you first set out on your mission. One of the main drivers to actually go on and make more money is I just wanted a bigger garden for my dog. I'll throw up a picture here. This was our house when I first lived in, when I got Ranger from the pound. And this is like 10 years later. This is his garden now. The mission from the get-go was just do right by my dogs as best as I possibly can. And I don't know why, but I fought the belief that money was going to make that way easier, because it most certainly does, and it did. So I'm here today to not virtue signal. I'm here today to teach you the importance of making more money. If you don't know, I went from jobless, clientless, moneyless to running a multi-six-figure per month— this isn't per year, per month— business. And when you see these losers online talking about six-figure businesses, that's actually what they've done in their lifetime. Not a month. We do multi-six figures per month, and I've been through every stage of growing a business. I remember our first $10K month. I remember our first $20K month. I remember our first $50K month. I remember our first $100K month like it was yesterday. And just last month, we hit our first $200K month. That is what most businesses do, especially in our industry, in the entirety of their existence, if they even make it that far. I have been through each and every problem you could ever imagine, and this is why I'm going to give you this advice today. So here's what more money actually does. More money is going to buy you more time. If you're more profitable, you've got more free time. And with that free time, here's what happens. You've got more time to upskill yourself. Chances are, if you're making money and you're doing a lot of fulfillment, the last thing you want to do is think about training more dogs or doing your job in your spare time. You are then done. You are cooked by the end of the day. But if you make more money and become more efficient in making money, e.g., working less and earning more and becoming more profitable, obviously, it keeps that spark alive. In your spare time, you are looking to do that online programme. You're looking to do that seminar, that webinar, whatever it is. Instead of thinking, I can't bear to see another dog today, you will offer a better service 'cause you have time to upskill yourself. This brings me on to my next point. If you've got a lot of fulfilment, 5, 6, 7 clients a day, do you think the level of quality you give in session 1 is the same as session 5? 6 or 7. I don't care if you're Superman. Absolutely not. It will kill the quality of your delivery, and you will be letting people down left, right, and center. You have to get it out of your head that more money equals more work. That is the trap. What we're looking for here is leverage, more profitable, more efficient, working less and earning more. And with that, you get better reviews, better quality testimonials that you can fire back into your business to bring in better clients. When you become more profitable, more leveraged, more efficient, you will fulfill people for longer. You will actually last in this industry. I see so many people burn out because they neglect to understand how to run a business, and it blows my mind. People come up to me and they say, Jacob, I'm on the brink of burnout. I'm about to give this shit up. And I say, okay, pay me some money and I will teach you how to fix this problem in a week or so, like I've done for so many others. Read the testimonials in the description. There's proof of it. They go, I can't, I'm too busy. I've got this on and I've got that on and and fucking bloody bloody blah. And I wish I could just tell them about the very small levers they could pull in that moment to make things work, but I can't do that without being paid. That would be disrespectful to those that do pay me. That's a business lesson for you, by the way. Anyway, I see so many great dog trainers burning out, and if they're sat behind a desk filling out a form because of you now have to work a shitty recruitment job, you're not going to help any dogs. Please don't think becoming more leveraged and running a proper business is in any way immoral. It's quite the opposite. Look at our business business. When we first started out and we were run ragged, we were maybe serving like 5 or 6 dogs a week. We do that per hour now because of we have a team and the facility and all the rest of it. And I'm not saying you have to work up to that point. You can be more leveraged as a one-man or woman band, but you're not helping anyone if you burn out. And you are going to burn out if you don't learn how to run a business. And by the way, this is just one of countless reasons, but you will have more time with those that you actually love. If you feel like right now you're spending more time with clients you potentially don't even like, that maybe even annoy you, which we've all been there. People who have the wrong mindset and don't even respect their own dog enough to actually put in the effort. You're spending more time with them than you are probably your own dog, the whole reason you likely signed up to do this shit in the first place. Sorry to be so harsh, but your business is fundamentally, and your life is potentially fucked, and you have a problem. This is not what you signed up for. It does not have to be this way. You You not have to jeopardize your time with your loved ones, your friends, your family, and for me, my dogs, to go around doing donkey work on a hamster wheel for other people. There are easier ways to do things. You just need the right education. Making money is exceptionally important. Making money matters in more ways than you can ever believe. We've been culturally indoctrinated through movies and our education into thinking that striving to make a lot of money is a bad thing. It is not. People who make a lot of money have a very high level of responsibility, and of course some abuse that, but you can go on to fulfill your mission should you choose to. If you wanna learn more about my mentorship, of course, like this whole business channel is to plug my mentorship. I hope you get value from it, but at the same time, I will be transparent with you. I encourage you to click the link in the description, read read the details of the testimonials, see how that would look in your business and your life, and potentially take action and stop being a loser. You can even reach out to those people if you want to. You can send them a message and even ask them yourself how they found the mentorship.
