This is a transcript of a YouTube video (presented by Jarrad Goulding) describing a standard general pest treatment for Australian homes. It explains which pests are targeted (common crawling insects such as spiders, cockroaches, millipedes, earwigs), homeowner preparations before treatment (clear items from external walls, remove washing-line clothes, secure pet bowls, close windows/doors during indoor treatment), and safety/access procedures (residents and pets remain inside during external treatment and may re-enter once treatment is dry). The speaker states warranties (external treatment: 3 months; internal: 6 months), notes that treatment may temporarily increase visible insect activity as pests pick up chemicals and die, and gives prevention tips (decluttering, keeping foliage away from the house, maintaining flyscreens and door seals). The speaker recommends repeat treatments approximately every six months.

In a general pest treatment, the pests that are covered are your typical crawling insects. So spiders, cockroaches, millipedes, earwigs, your general type of insects that you find around the home. This will help with that. The things that you will need to prepare for your general pest treatment are taking things away from the outside of the external walls so that we can treat the walls so that way the, the insects can pick up the chemical. And then it's just other little things like making sure the clothes are off the washing line, any pet bowls are put away, and then for the treatment itself being inside with the windows and doors closed so we can get that done safely. So you wouldn't need to leave your house during a general pest treatment. What we would need is that while we're treating on the outside of the property, everyone would remain on the inside of the property, including any pets, dogs, cats, that type of thing throughout the treatment on the outside of the property, we would then swap over. You'd need to come on the outside, we would treat the inside and you wouldn't need to remain outside until we've completed the treatment and that the treatment has dried and safe to re enter. The treatment is safe for your pets and your garden. We would just need the pets to remain on the inside of the property while we are treating the external of the property. Once the treatment is dry, safe for the pets to be around the garden itself. It will not have any effect on any of the plants or shrubbery. We wouldn't actually be treating them directly typically, so there's no concern there. So we can't put a specific time frame on the time that your pest treatment will last. But what we can do is provide you with a warranty. We have a warranty on the external of the premises for three months and the internal of the premises for six months. So if you are still seeing any activity of insects within that time frame, you can give your technician a call. We'll come back, we'll retreat. So after the treatment, what you can typically expect to see is a little bit more activity than normal. That's because all the insects are coming out because of the treatment. Out of their hidey holes. They're picking up the chemical, they're dying off. After that period of time, you shouldn't see any more activity. All the pest issues are then taken care of. A few little things that you can do to help prevent pests on the outside of the building are little things like decluttering, making sure you're not having too many stored items. Up against the house that are creating hidey holes for spiders and other insects. Not having foliage and trees too close to the house. Typically that's where spiders are going to come from. Too close to the house, it's easy for them to travel to the house. Some other little things like having the lights turned left on at nighttime around the house. The lights attract flying insects, mosquitoes, that type of thing. And then that in turn attracts spiders looking for a free meal on the inside of the property. A few things you can do to help prevent insects getting in in the first place are making sure all your fly screens are in order, no holes in them. Having seal strips at the bottom of doors. One of the typical ways I see a lot of ground dwelling spiders get in is just straight in underneath the front and back door. So having that nice and sealed up, weep holes, having covers over them, that type of thing. Proofing the outside to prevent them from getting in on the inside. Other than that, the best prevention is to have general pest treatments done regularly. I recommend that people have a treatment done every six months. If we can stay on top of the amount of activity around the house, then we're going to see better results. You've got to realize that we live in Australia, there are always going to be insect problems. So if we can just knock down the numbers, we're going to have better results in the long run.
