Short transcript of a homeowner Q&A where Sean (speaker) lists early signs of termite infestation—shelter tubes (dirt where it shouldn't be), discarded wings after termite flights, hollow-sounding timber (e.g., door frames), and small cuts/holes in timber. He advises getting an inspection by a licensed technician and notes homeowners should protect their house because termite damage isn't insured. The content is advice-oriented and local-service focused.

Chapters

Sean, I'm worried about termites in my new home. What are some early signs of termites? What do we look out for? Yeah, so a lot of early signs of termites. A few different things you can look out for. So shelter tubes would be the number one thing. So dirt in places that shouldn't be dirt. Termites protect themselves from the outside air. So you'll have dirt tubes up the slab edge of the house or something like that. They're also, at certain times of the year, you'll find discarded wings around the house. That means that there's a termite colony nearby. They've had a flight and they're looking to start new colonies. Hollow sounding timber. So door frames. If you were bang on a door frame and it sounded hollow, that's a dead giveaway. You've got termites and then little cuts and holes in timbers that shouldn't actually be there. Could also indicate termites. So the number one thing, Harvey, is to protect your house. So no insurance for termites. So make sure you get an inspection done by a licensed technician. And who should we call? The local guys, of course.
