Claude Design TESTED: Can It Replace Your Design Tool?

Jeremy Mura tests Claude Design, Anthropic's new web app, to see if it can replace traditional design tools. He builds a weather app prototype, extracts a design system from brand assets, generates a sales deck, and creates a style guide, finding it fast for first drafts but requiring manual verification and careful credit management.

Hey, it's Jeremy. Recently Anthropic released Claude Design, and I want to test it to see if it can actually design practical designs, slide decks, prototypes, apps. Now to access it, it's currently not on the desktop app, so you will have to use it in the web app. You can go to Claude.ai-design. So once you're in here, you can create a prototype. You got slide deck, you got from a template, and you've got other as well. And then you've got some designs here, your designs, examples. That we can look at that people have made. So I'm just gonna go here and create a project. Let's call it Weather Pro. I'm gonna click Create. And what we can actually do is start off with a sketch. It's probably best if we find a screenshot and do it that way. But another cool way is you can start with a sketch and we can draw an app. Let's say we want to make like a weather system and we want to have like sun here and And then we have a bar. Um, and then you can also add little notes. You can add drop text in here, and then you can go to the context window. And I'm just going to say create a weather app that weekly weather Weekly weather, clean minimal design, interactive elements. Beautiful. And we can see our prototype is up and we can see everything that it did on the left. It created the cool deep navy frosted glass aesthetic. I've got a hero card, 7-day forecast, hourly breakdown. So we can click on these and and it will load. It even created interactive elements, which is really cool on the top right there. So we can click all this and we can see the hourly down the bottom. And this is in New York, and we can tweak it to go to Celsius. Maybe you want Tokyo. You can do solid dark, outline only, or the frosted glass, which is really cool. And so I think it's really great. And then what we can do is we can go in and we can drop We can drop comments. So if you have a team member and you share— you've shared the link, so if you got to share, you can copy that link and they click comment, they can come in here and say, uh, change the icon, right? And it will leave that comment in the comment sections in the top. And then in the left-hand side in the comment bar, you will get this. I think it's cool. You can also click edit. So if you want to change the background, we can do that as well. So if you want to go really dark Or maybe you want to go like with Sunshine, whatever we want. We can adjust those colors, which I think is really cool. And then we can also draw on top of here as well, and we can add a note. So we can say add notes or whatever. So I think this is really cool. It gives you lots of features, um, for multiplayer mode, for editing, for changes. And then on the left-hand side, what we can say is Let's say, um, add a subtle image blurred in the background when you change days. Bring, um, show the hourly, make it a sidebar option. You can also use your microphone, you can add attachments, and you can also change to 4.7 Opus. Um, for now I'm just gonna use— don't wanna use too much, too many tokens. So we're gonna stick with that. Once it's doing that, you can see all the tabs at the top. So it's like I'm in a design file in like Figma or something. And then you go in the folder here and it was— I can see my folders and also the pages. We've got the HTML prototype, which is there. And then they got the scraps, which is the notes and the sketch. It's updated the design. You can see now it's added it to a sort of sidebar. So which I told the hourly, and we click this and it reloads that, which is cool. It didn't really add an image in the background. Each condition— sunny, cloudy, rainy, stormy— paints unique gradient. So it adds the gradient into the background, which is really cool. You can change the background to subtle or vivid. Let's go Los Angeles Celsius. This is really cool. So you can play around, add so many changes. Like let's say, let's change the frosty gradient. Design to a retro 2K vibe. Vivid colors, fun fonts, but keep design and layouts the same. Change that and see what it can do. Love this retro design that it created. Love this like spinning neon effect. Change the fonts as well. Um, it told me change it to Orbitron. Holographic spinning border, V on Vivid Neon palette, scanline overlay, neon stat values. Love this, really fun, very vibrant. It's probably not good for readability because too many colors, but hey, it's kind of fun, it's different. Next, I'm going to try making a sales slide deck. So I'm going to go Sales Deck, and I'm going to go Set Up Design System, and I'm going to add some files. So what you can do here, I'm going to do it based on one of my clients. So scalable helps grow from 100K to millions with systems. You can come in here, you can add GitHub repo. Most of you probably don't use that. You can also link code from your computer if you've got a code file. You can upload a fig.fig file. So if you've got a design already baked, you can drag it in. You can also add fonts, logos, and assets as well. So I'm gonna do that and drag it into the bottom here. Just a Dropbox file with guidelines, the logos, and the assets. So I've dropped that in. So you can also add a bit of notes down the bottom here. So I can say we use bold all caps for text. The feel is professional and masculine, using dark tones of— and when I click Generate, and it's gonna start to create that design system. Now in terms of the design system that I uploaded from one of my using one of my client brands that I did. You can see here it's got the bland colors and it asks us to review, which is cool. So we can go in here and we can say it's got all the brand colors. Um, obviously these yellows shouldn't be in there, so you can say needs work or looks good. Um, the gray looks good. So it basically extracted all the everything. So the font there, yep, Switzer, all caps. That's The letter— the kerning was a bit wide, but it's fine. I've got the body text and spacing tokens. Yep, that's great. Radiant shadows. And then the buttons as well. Hover states, buttons, looks good. Scalefast cards, dark, rich, black, yellow accent, border variants. Yep. Labels and badges. Beautiful. And then the logo here, looking good. And then I uploaded the icons as well and the pattern, brand pattern. So that's really great. It got all of the design system, and now you can see with the prototype, it did like a website UI kit, which I think is really cool. Like, for a first pass, like, this is great. So get an idea for like what you could do for a landing page or something. And then we can click on New Design Using This System. So now we have that one design system. You can create multiple design systems, but now we have that, we can select it from here. So now we can go slide deck, we can say sales. I'm gonna create, create. I've selected the design system and now it's gonna create a slide deck. So down the bottom it will tell you what, it's got a little label here, it tells you that it's using that design system. Create a sales deck pitching to small who are growing fast. I'll give you some questions here and we'll quickly just go through this. So here's a result of the sales deck based on the design system we gave it, and I'm just going to go through the slides here. Create a full deck. It's got a grid going on. It's got text going through the framework, 4 pillars. That's really good. What's included in the program? Client results. Who we are. I think it did a pretty good job, like, using the colors and the fonts and sticking with that. And it's even using the icons, which is great. Obviously the layout is not as creative, like, just really straightforward, which I think is fine, like, for a sales deck, but it just depends on what it's for. I think it's pretty cool. Um, create a new project. We'll just call it Blue Mountains. I'm going to upload an image, a screenshot. I found just this editorial image, and I've got this guide, this Blue Mountain guide, that I'm going to up Load. I'm gonna drag and drop that into here, and then I'm gonna say make a guide like the editorial screenshot style for the layout. Make it 2 pages. 2 pages. Add images. And here is the final result of the Blue Mountains guide. I really liked how it just took the text and made it a nice design based on that screenshot. I think that's really cool. So Claude is really fun to use. You can create a lot of different prototypes, and I think for designers, like, we can let our imagination run free and just create whatever we want. Um, but just be wary of the credits, and you know, it does take time to prompt back and put, like, prompt back and forth. It's not 100%. Sometimes it will make— might get things that not accurate or not or wrong. So just always check your work. Thanks so much for watching. Let me know your thoughts on Claude. I know it's hype now and everyone's talking about it, but I think it's actually practical to use. I recommend playing around with it. I'll put the link in the description below. And I don't know, let me know your thoughts. Are you using Claude? Is it useful? Let me know in the comments below. If you don't want to see some more content like this, watch this video here where I show you how to create some more creative designs.
