Type Layout Quick Tip | Illustrator Tutorial

A short Illustrator tutorial by Jeremy Mura demonstrating a fast typography workflow for creating carousels and social media graphics. The video shows how to store reusable text styles off-artboard and apply them quickly using the Eyedropper tool, plus minor adjustments (case, size, color) to speed up layout design.

In this tutorial, I'll be showing you a cool typography tip that you can use to speed up your creating your carousels, social media graphics, or any other type of content design for your clients or personal projects really, really fast. So you can see here I've got a basic cover. This could be for a carousel, for example. And I've got all these text, I've got a header, a sub header, some paragraph text, and my tag for Instagram. So what I typically do is if you go to the left here, pretty much setting some styles outside of the artboard, so they can be anywhere. For example, if I have a whole batch of carousels, you can see here there's a lot of typical textiles I'm using. So I'll keep it on the left hand side. So I can always reuse this, right? And then I can, you know, use the eyedropper and then I can change it. So I'm going to show you how to quickly do that. So I'll create a header and, and you can see this is a TT norms and it's, it's black. Accidentally changed it so you can see it's TTNORM black. The subheaders at medium paragraph is at medium. And then also I've got a tag here which is medium italic. So what I can do is if I select this type, I can press I for the Eyedropper tool, make sure your caps lock is off or else you'll get this weird crosshair icon. But what I can actually do is start to sample the text. So all I have to do is literally click on that text box and it's on a copy. The sizing and the weight of it. I'll do the same for the subheading, I can do the same for the little text here and then the tag at the bottom. All you do is press V, select the text box, press I for the eyedropper and select the text over here that has a style on it. And you can see already our layout has already starting to take shape, then obviously I can move things around. I can change the type case for this. So I can go to type change case uppercase for this I can go type for this one, select change case and I can do title case as you can see there. And I can also scale things down really easily that I want. I can maybe make it gray or even add a nice bit of color as we can see there. And just quickly, we can quickly make speed up our layout design really, really fast by having these pre made styles on the side. So then when we go ahead to, you know, create more content and add text, you know, if we're doing carousels or whatever and we've got text here, we always want to make sure that we can quickly select by just doing the eyedropper tool. Really, really easy. It just makes life a lot easier and faster. You can see there. So always have it on the side, ready, ready to go. And that's how you do it. So thanks guys for watching. Hope you guys enjoy this quick tip and hopefully it speeds up your workflow. Remember to, like, subscribe and comment for more design content every week. Appreciate it. Take it easy.
