People with unusual names get fewer responses in sales outreach. One workaround: send a Loom video so prospects hear and see you. Jesse Pujji's friend Arjun saw his conversion rates jump after going by AJ.
My name's kind of weird, right?
I realized that this is like a huge obstacle. People on my team didn't speak to me because they couldn't pronounce my name.
And I've worked in companies, but my response rate is lower because my name's weird, right? In your opinion, does it matter if I end up converting higher but don't get that initial call because of my name? Like, I'm not one to change my name to manipulate this, but like, it's a consideration.
It's definitely a barrier, but one thing that really works for us, at least in my experience, is that I started sending out Loom videos. as an introduction when I was reaching out to people and people respond to that. Like they see you, they hear you, and that actually worked for me.
I don't think there's a right or wrong answer. So if you do change it, I don't think you should think of yourself as a sellout or anything like that. If I were you, by the way, if you don't have religion around it, I would just play with it. Like just try different things and see what happens. It's a real thing. It's good to acknowledge it, but don't be afraid to change it. I did it with my best friend. His name is Arjun. His sales conversion was horrible and we're like, dude, change your name to AJ. He changed his name to AJ. His conversion rate like tripled.
