how to get better at losing weight

Short advice clip by Jim Katsoulis arguing that weight loss should be treated as a learning process rather than a willpower problem. He recommends analyzing mistakes (e.g., why you ate ice cream — hunger, stress, lack of options, routine) and using those insights to change behavior and internal identity over time.

How to get better at losing weight. Yes, you heard me right. Getting better at it. You know, the big mistake people make when it comes to losing weight is they think they already know what they got to do and they just need willpower to force themselves to do it. And they take out any learning as part of the process, which I think is one of the biggest mistakes you can make. If you start to treat your weight loss as a learning process where you are learning how to get yourself to do the things you know you should, it changes everything. And the biggest way it changes things is after you make a mistake. And you're going to make mistakes. So you want to have a strategy in place that when you make a mistake, you're going to look at it and learn from it so that the next, next time you can put yourself into a better situation to act the way that you want to. But it all depends on you looking at what you did wrong and understanding why. So if it comes to a time when you ate ice cream, when you said you wanted to lose weight, we want to look at it. Were you too hungry? Were you emotionally stressed? Was there no other healthier options in place? Was it just part of this routine that you always do? What's going on? The more you look at and learn from it and understand it, the more you can start to strategize and teach yourself and train yourself to be a person who, who eats the way that you want to. But it's not enough just to say, I know what I gotta do, I just need to get myself to do it. Because that willpower based approach is ineffective because you never learn or grow or evolve into a different version of yourself. And weight loss is really all about transforming yourself from the inside out into the person you want to be. And the only way that you can do that is by learning from your mistakes.
