Community Cashflow - Fans First

Madison Doherty Tipton explains community cashflow: a group of passionate fans who repeatedly buy from you and promote your brand. Jesse Cole's Savannah Bananas show how unconventional experiences, not ads, turn customers into superfans with tattoos and waitlists. The lesson walks through finding your fandom and evaluating if it's viable.

Take me, let me. Hey everybody and welcome. Hopefully this is working. Hopefully. I know there's some technical issues with Facebook, so we're also streaming to the YouTube just in case. Hopefully the computer does a lot better than it tried to do last week. And today is something fun. Fun and exciting. We are entering a new phase. We are tackling a new challenge, which is the concept and we've slightly hinted on it before, which is called community cash flow, which is how do you create a group of raving fans that will buy every single one of your offers that you can get paid to hang out with people just like you. And that is the exciting thing and that's what we're going to go over and what you're going to build in the next step, several weeks is your community cash flow. How can you build a community of like minded people who are passionate like you and you can turn your passions into profit? So if that sounds like something you're interested in, let me know down below. And we're going to break down this concept. We're going to build this together over the next couple of weeks. Just so you guys know, now this lesson in community cash flow is all called Fans first. And what does it mean, fans first. We're going to explain that today. How do you find your fans first community? How do you build this? Why do we want to build this? All this is coming and that's what we're talking about today. So in this module you will find how to find your community of passionate people who will buy your products, promote your offers and tell other people about this amazing community. And this all stems from my own experience, right? When I thought back on it, I'm like, who doesn't want to get paid to hang out with people just like them, right? Do you guys want to get paid to hang out with people who, who think like you, who, who are passionate about the same things as you? Anybody here? Well, that's exactly what we're building, right? We're building these communities that will then come through and buy our offers. But there are people just like us and we get to have fun and we get to hang out with them and we want to hang out with them. So next slide. This is an example. This is something that I, I got over the weekend is really spurred on this whole thought about this, fans first. So I have not done anything in the softball group for over six months. I've transitioned it to a newsletter and I got this DM says can you still buy ultimate softball merch books, stickers, etcetera I've missed seeing your posts and videos. Hope all is well, right? Six months of ignoring these people. Six months of not doing anything, not giving a giveaway, not doing a mystery prize Friday, not doing pop up prize, nothing. Six months and I still get a message like this. People still want to buy. And this is the power in a fans first community. It's not just like any other community. We don't just launch this community because we think that there's money in it. No, it comes from fans first. So this example, I've kind of coined this phrase from Jesse Cole, who, who is the founder of the Savannah Bananas. If you've not heard about the Savannah Bananas, they are a independent baseball team in Savannah, Georgia and they have done things differently, right? They talk about this being this fan first approach, right? And this is what I want you guys to kind of understand this concept of how can we do business differently and how can we focus on the fans? Now we're not going to mimic exactly what they do with the Savannah Bananas. We are going to take this concept of finding a passionate group of people and turning them into our own tribe that will follow us, will send us message, we'll beg to buy our offers, and we'll even tattoo our logos on their bodies, right? So I got a clip here from Jesse Cole, Speaking of lawyers, actually, it's on the YouTube and I want to play that and go over that and I want you guys to really just have an idea, just have an open mind about this because I think this is a fascinating approach to business and we're going to gleam some things from it to put in our own business. So let me add this to the video. We're going to play this video right now.
How many people here have actually heard of the Savannah Bananas?
Wow.
Thank you. I was speaking to a similar group like this six months ago and just one person in the back was clapping. It was my dad. So we've certainly come a long way. But for the people that don't know, share a little context. And then let's get to the how this applies to your business, your firm. So after years of running a baseball team with my wife for 10 years, we thought it was a great decision that we should go into over a million dollars in debt. So we bought an expansion franchise in Savannah, Georgia in 2015. We had this big vision to take on this team and change baseball and make it fun. But that vision didn't come to fruition at all. In the beginning, it was myself, my wife, our 24 year old team president, three 22 year olds straight out of college that started that team. What a crew we had. And we showed up and we had this big vision. But we only sold a couple tickets in our first three months. To be specific, we sold two total tickets in three months. That's not a good business model. It was so bad that By January of 2016, we got a phone call that we had overdrafted our house, overdrafted our account. We were completely out of money. And my wife and I had to sell our house and empty out our savings account and put money into the team. We were down to our last dollar. We were grocery shopping with just $30 a week. That's all we had. And we failed because we were selling like everyone else. We were marketing like everyone else. We were acting like everyone else. It wasn't until finally said, we gotta go big. We gotta create attention in a different way. So we're gonna name the team after a fruit. And so we became the Savannah Bananas. But it wasn't just naming the team the Bananas. We said we could have a senior citizen dance team called the Banana Nanas. We could have a male cheerleading team called the Mananas. Now they're just the dad bod cheerleading squad. We could name our mascot Split. We could have music videos that can't stop the peeling. We could have promotions where we throw bananas in people's pants. And it's called Banana in the Pants. We had a lot of crazy ideas, but we knew we had to get people to care. And you can't get the hearts until you get the eyes and the ears of your customers. So we had to create a tension. We named the team the Savannah Bananas. And I'll never Forget that day, February 25, 2016, when we announced the team was the Bananas. Everybody hated it. They said the owner should be thrown out of town. You guys are an embarrassment to the city. You'll never sell a ticket. Leave our town now. It was brutal. Tons of criticism. But we knew if we could just get to opening night, get them to see the experience, that we could convert and create some fans. So finally it got to opening night and we somehow sold the game out because enough people were hoping that we might fail. And they showed up that first game, and we were wearing green uniforms because we weren't quite ripe. And we made six errors. We played terrible. There was a rain delay. It was a disaster in every, every way possible. But they watched as our players went into the crowd and delivered roses to little girls. They watched the Banana Nanas dance they watched us lift up a baby in a banana, costume up like this and sing Na savanya nahee. They watch the whole show, and by the end of that night, they told everybody. And since that game back, our first opening game in 2016, we've been so fortunate to sell out every single game. Our wait list is about to hit 200,000 for tickets. We're traveling on a world tour, and most importantly, my wife and I are now sleeping on a real bed. So thank you for applauding our misery. Thank you. So what changed? What was the big difference and how does it apply to you? There were two words that we focused on. It's the name of the company. It's fans First, Fans First Entertainment. Everything we do is about fans. We have fans now. I remember one of our last games, a family came up to me. A father, a wife and three kids. And they said, that was so much fun. And I go, oh, did you come into town for this? They said, yeah, we drove 40 hours from Utah for this game, and we're driving 40 hours back tomorrow. In my mind, I'm like, what is wrong with you? Who would drive 40 hours for a game? We now have a wait list for the banana baby. Even before people are even. Their baby's not even born yet. They're calling us to get on the wait list for their banana baby. We have over 100 people that have tattoos of our logo. What would that look like if your law firm. If people are getting tattoos of your firm because they love you guys so much, how do we do that? How do we create that? So what does that look like? I'll share a quick video to share where we came from to where we are now and how you can create fans. It's over. The perfect ending for a storybook summer. The Savannah Bananas should not exist today. You can't name any of the players. They play in a 1920s ballpark with no ads or billboards. They play in kilts, stilts, and stilettos. They even have an all grandma dance team team. Everything we do is unconventional. None of it should work, but it does. ESPN calls the Bananas the greatest show in baseball. I could care less about baseball till this. This came about. Do you want to play the same game as everyone else? Scott chasing customers. Start creating fans. This is the behind the peel story of how it all happened. This is fans first. Okay, so now when you think about the future of business, I believe the future of business is not based on how many customers you have or how many clients you have. It's based on how many fans you have. Customers are transactional. They come and go, but fans never leave. And right now, it's one of the most competitive times ever in business. There's thousands of store closures, iconic brands. Sears, Circuit City, Blockbuster, they're all a distant memory because they had thousands and millions of customers, but they didn't have fans to keep the business going. So how do we do that? How do we create that? When Michael and the team and Crisp here, they're outstanding in marketing. I've seen some of your stories. What you guys are doing from a marketing standpoint, unbelievable. Here's the truth about us. We spend zero dollars on marketing. Zero. But we spend everything on the experience. The most powerful form of marketing is when your customers, your clients and your fans are doing that for you.
So obviously that right there is just a snippet. There's more from that speech on YouTube. You can go out and search. There's tons more from Jesse Cole. This is my. I'm trying to. Don't know how I'm gonna do it. I want just go speak Jesse Cole to speak at Funnel hacking Live. That is my big, ambitious. I don't even know how I'm gonna do that. I have no idea. But I want you guys to think about this, because the same exact principles that have made the Savannah Bananas available to sell out Wrigley Field, they've sold out the Houston. Houston Astro Stadium, They've sold out the Washington National Stadium, they have sold out Fenway Park. Like, they have sold out these major league baseball stadiums. And they have a wait list. And there's some not professional level baseball players. They are very good. They're also mixed with TikTok fame. Right. But they have created this environment of fans first. So I want you to come and think about that in terms of your business. Because a fishbowl funnel allows you to target these people. So instead of just simply going out and trying to fish in the pond that everybody else is fishing in, how can we create this experience, right. Where people, six months after you have basically abandoned them will still come back and ask, how do I buy your products? Right. So going back to our slides, why do we want to target fans first? Well, a fan is an individual who shows up enthusiastic admiration, support, and loyalty towards a particular brand, product or service. Right. This is a completely different way of shifting. I want you guys to think about niches. What do you think about fandoms? Right. What fandom can you go after? Right. We can call it a fan kingdom. How are you going to be the Savannah bananas of your specific niche. We're not talking niches, right? We want to create these fans, right? This experience that people are going to have with our business. Think nascar, think these fanatic fans of, like, major professional sports, right? The people that will face paint or the people that will buy absolutely every trinket that has Jeff Gordon on them, right? These are the people that we want because these are the people that are going to buy our products. They're going to tell every single buddy about them. They're going to show up to every single live, and they're going to be so excited and amazed that they won something, right? Because we think about most of these people probably have never won anything in their whole entire life. And we're going to give them a chance to win something and they're going to go crazy about it. Okay? These are people who proudly show their fandom, right? They spend money on their fandom. They are loud about their fandom. The one thing that is their thing, right? Maybe they are soccer fans or football fans or rugby fans or gardeners or pickleballers. They are those people. This is their thing. This is their fandom, right? So here's an example. Coming up this fall, the NFL is playing a game in Sao Paulo, Brazil, right? The Eagles versus the Packers. February, September 6th. Or. Yeah, Friday, not February, Friday, September 6th, right? Think about this. Two teams, two NFL teams going from America to Brazil who both have green as their primary color. And they could have to face not wearing green because that's the color of the soccer rivals that play in the stadium. That's the team that plays their rivals. We're green. So they actually have a ban in their stadium that nobody can wear green. So the NFL has gone through and picked the Eagles and the packers, who both, as you can see, have green in their uniforms, who are going to go play in a stadium that you cannot wear a green uniform. You cannot wear a green jersey because it's banned. These are the people that we want. We want these people that are so dedicated that they will not allow anybody else's colors in their stadium. They will not allow their rivals colors, right? These are your ride or dies. This is what we want to create, okay? Why do we want these people? Because they will buy our product, they will buy our offers, they will support us six months after we have last seen them, right? They will invite other people that are like them. They will be easy to collect because they're polarizing, right? We only want people who are fanatic about pickleball we only want people who are Red Wings fans. We only want people who are packers fans, right? These people are easy to collect because we're going to shy away everybody else who is not going to be interested in our products, our services and our offers. We want just these people. We want our people. These people become raving fans when you give them an opportunity to not only win something, but to also partake in a community that allows them to truly be themselves and be proud and show off what they are really excited about. Okay? Like I said, remember? Six months later, can I still buy ultimate softball merch books, stickers, etc. I've missing your posts and videos. Heart sign. Hope you're well, right? Who wants this for their business? You close your door, you ignore these people. You don't post in your group, six months later, they still want to buy your stuff, right? Later this day, this person bought 13 books on Amazon. 13 books in one day. Okay, so different types of fandoms, obviously. We have our hobbies. You have crafts, you have traveling, right? We have sports that we participate in. Pickleball, softball, soccer. We got our passions, think family or grandkids. We got locations that we're fans of. National parks, ski resorts, right? And then we have professions, teachers, firefighters, U.S. marine Corps veterans. These identities that we have that we have created for ourselves. I am a softball player or I am a crafter, or I am a pickleball player or I'm a veteran, right? And we want to think about this as if they will wear a T shirt. They'll put it on their car, or they will on their house, or they will put it on their body. These are the people that we want, right? So you got the NASCAR guy, you got the Marine Corps mom, you got the crazy cat lady. As you can see, up to five cats on that shirt. That's a crazy cat lady, right? But you can buy that shirt. Every cat lady doesn't be like, oh, I can get my cats on there, right? They might have to have two shirts, right? If they have more than five cats, these are the people we want. If they will wear a T shirt, meaning they'll buy a product, they'll put it on their car, meaning they'll buy a product, they will put it on their house, they'll buy a product, or they'll put it on their body. They're that fanatic about this topic. These are the people we want to target. Because when we give these people an opportunity, number one, they're going to be thankful. And number two, they're going to be loyal because you're just like them, right? Secret formula here. Your fandom plus your cash flow community. Like I said, we're going to break these down. We're going to build this out. We're going to build out your cash flow community over the next several weeks. So crazy cat lady buys crazy cat lady shirts, right? Softball players buy ultimate softball merch. Your fish, your fandom is carp fishing leads you to a 2 comma club award. Okay, are you guys starting to put this together? Then when we combine a fandom with our cash flow community, we structure it this way. You can print money, you can sell anything to these people, six months later, you can still sell them products. Who is going to come from a Facebook ad, an Amazon ad, a YouTube ad six months later and ask to buy your products that only comes from your cash flow community. So what if I don't know my fandom? So this says, when you're at a party and nobody wants to talk about cows. So the love to tell this story is we have a friend, and this is him, right? He loves to talk about cows. He talks about their genetics. He talks about the breeding, he talks about their lineage. He talks about how much they're sold for. He talks about the, the shows they've won and the trophies they won and what their offspring have done. He knows that he's. He's fanatical about it. This is his stand up cows. What are you willing to talk to somebody for, for free? What are you willing to show up for every single day to hang out with people just like you about, right? When this is your fandom, when it is something that you're truly passionate about, Remember, we're talking about passions to profit. That's the concept I want you guys to think about when you find a passion. I love talking about, you know, we've talked a lot about a fish mole funnel and how this fishbowl funnel gives you Runway with these people, right? They want to win the thing so much that they're going to show up so that they have extra chances to win. It allows you to build, know, like and trust with them. It allows you more chances to get them to basically connect with you so you can sell them things. I want you to think about that. On the flip side, when this thing is the thing you're passionate about, it's not a chore to go live. It's not a chore to have to try to figure out what to post or have to try to engage with these people, because these are Your people, these are people just like you that at the same time they want to hang out, they want to have the opportunities. You want to enjoy them, you want to be a part of them, right? So who would you and what would you talk about for free? What do you talk about to your friends and family when they kind of roll their eyes and they're like, well, that's not that cool. Good for you. Good for you, right? We all have those things that we're extremely passionate about that other people may not understand. We just have to find our group of people. You have to find your fandom, okay? And this will turn into your cash flow community. So the winning Fan first framework, Number one, you are a fan first. You're passionate about this. You know this subject. You're a subject matter expert. If it is pickleball or rugby or cleaning houses or DIY or boats, you're a fan first. You're a subject matter expert. There are also other groups. It's kind of like a credibility test, right? Is there other places where these people are gathered? Because if there is, they will most likely join your place. It's polarizing. Think us versus them. You can't wear green in this stadium, right? And is there people also buying products? So are people selling products on Etsy? Are people buying the crazy cat lady shirt? Right? This is the winning Fan Force Fan first framework, right? If you're a fan, number one, you have to be a fan because you can't fake it. So you make it with these people. These people will know that you're not authentic and you will not show up, right? There are other groups, meaning people. If there are other groups who will join your group, it's polarizing, meaning you can attract your people because you can repel everybody else. And there are people buying products. So look, Amazon, Google, Etsy, we'll go over that in a later subject in a later module. So to earn your Fan first badge, I want you to say, right, you know, come up with these four things. Here are your four tasks. What would you talk about to anyone for free? What is it? What fandoms does that align with? If you're into gardening, then you find the fandom of gardeners, right? And then go out to Facebook and find three other fan groups. Join them, right? This is going to be an undercover part of this. And then go find three selling products, right? This will help you to figure out what you can also sell to these people. Because if it's selling, all we got to do is make a better product or a Cheaper one or add more benefits to it. Okay, so to earn your fan first badge, I need you to post in the group. What would you talk about to anyone for free? What fandom does that align with? Meaning pick an area, a niche, right? Find three other fan groups and go out and join them on Facebook. These are groups that are going to align with your fandom and then find three selling products and post those in the group. You don't have to post them all at once, but let me know where you're at with this. Right, because this is going to be the base of everything else that we're going to build moving forward. Right? You have to know what are this group of people? Who are you going to target? Who are going to be your fans? We got to find our fans first and then we can build everything else around it. Does that sound like a game plan? Okay, just know over the next couple weeks we're going to build this out together. We're also going to talk about six ways you can make money from your group. We're talking about three different fishbowl funnels. One that you have never you guys that are in the academy have not seen before. And we're going to build out your cash flow communities one step at a time so that you can find something you're passionate about, a group of people and sell them, offers products and services. Sound like a plan? So if it is, let me know below. Post your questions in the group, post your homework in the group. This is your homework is to see what would you talk about for free. What fandoms does that align with what are three other fan groups Call out and join them. Give me proof of it. And three selling products. So think Amazon, Etsy and Google. And with that being said, we will continue down this path and we will going to build your cash flow communities together. So have a wonderful day. I will see you guys all inside the group.
