How to 10x Your Productivity in 5 Minutes

A short, business-focused YouTube tutorial in which Matthew Larson presents a six-step, high-intensity productivity system he claims enabled him to work ~12 hours/day and that he’s taught to 150+ people. He prescribes (1) a small dark distraction-free workspace, (2) 60-minute timed work blocks with 10–15 minute breaks, (3) an hourly "work form" to record progress, (4) earplugs for silence, (5) three hours of focused early-morning work, and (6) five such 60-minute sessions per day, progressively increasing to reach a state of constant focused work.

Hey there. My name is Matthew Larson and this will be a 5 minute video on how to 10x your productivity. It's going to be a business focused video, but you could use this for school or really whatever you wanted to. So I work for about 12 hours per day, about six days per week using this exact stuff that I'm going to show you in this video. So I've shown this to 150 plus people inside a thousand X leads and it's transformed the way that they work. So I'm going to give you the exact plan to be 1000% more focused and productive, basically right away. The first thing you want to do is set up in a small, dark place with no distractions. So if you don't have a specific room or office or space that fits the criteria, you're going to want to set up your desk in a closet or a bathroom or like a cellar type thing. And I know, I'm not joking. Don't allow your phone to be in the room with you while working. And you want to block every single website except the ones you'll be using, which will be fewer than you could possibly imagine. It's the best possible work environment. There's, there's no distractions, there's no excess light. It's usually pretty cool and it's very, very, very, very strong, trust me. It sounds probably weird, especially with that photo there, but it's very, very effective. The second thing you want to do is get a 60 minute timer. So the ideal work system, in my opinion, is to work as hard as you can for 60 minutes and then take a 10 to 15 minute break. We need this timer because most people seriously overestimate how much they actually work. How, how many hours people work is kind of like the inverse of calories, where people greatly underestimate how many calories they are consuming. And the only way to know for sure how much we're working is by using a timer. We're going to train ourselves to work there and not stand up or stop until the hour is done. This is going to get a lot easier over time. And the third thing you want to do is get a work form. So after every hour you should fill out the form with what you did. This form will act as proof and like how much are we actually working here? As opposed to just arbitrarily saying, I work 12 hours a day with, you know, no evidence of that. This formal act is proof and filling it out will give you a very small but effective dopamine rush. The next thing you want to do is put in earplugs while you work. It makes it so much more easy to focus. Everything, all of the possible noises and distractions are gone. Not earbuds, not music, earplugs. And we want silence. And this will make it much easier to focus. And it kind of makes time go faster for some reason. Even though that's not true, it certainly seems that way. The next thing we want to do is wake up early and do three hours of work in the manner described before doing anything else. So you kind of have to get up early for this. To be honest. It's not like you could, you know, wake up at 9am and do this. Your half the day is going to be gone by that point. You really need to wake up at 6am or earlier and you're going to get three real hours of work done before the business day even, even starts. Your self esteem, your satisfaction, your attitude, your confidence, all of that kind of stuff will be a hundred times better if you do this than if you didn't. The sixth step is to do this five times per day. So you want to get five 60 minute sessions done per day in this manner and progressively add one more every week or every month if you're feeling a little bit soft. So we want to start out by working 60 minutes and fill out the form five times per day. Keep pushing yourself, keep gradually expanding your limits and the more you do this, the easier it will become. I ensure you that you want to do this and this is the last step until the only time you're happy is when you are doing this. So eventually you're going to hit a point of critical mass on the spiritual, the emotional, the mental level. That this system is all you want to do all day, every day. That might sound like strange advice and kind of overdoing it, but if you really want to hit the highest levels in business or whatever you're trying to achieve, it's kind of a necessity to work a lot of hours. Regardless of what people are going to tell you the second you hit this point of no return. This critical mass is a point your life will change forever and you are going to get a tremendous breakthrough. And in terms of business and that's really all there is to it. Do steps one to six until the only point that you're happy or satisfied in life is when you are doing steps one to six. It's going to be weird advice. It's going to be advice that sounds like it would be terrible for you on a personal level. And it might be. But if you are really trying to be more productive, to make more money and expand your business, these seven steps are all that you'll ever need.
