The Reason You Can Never Stay Consistent With Anything

A short YouTube monologue arguing that inconsistent behavior stems from unchanged thought habits and identity. The speaker proposes "retraining your mind" by repeating better thought-habits (specific replacement self-statements) across situations—e.g., waking early, gym sets, and fear—to create permanent behavioral change. Examples, mnemonics (Litany against Fear) and scriptable phrases are offered as practice tools.

If you have ever tried to change your behavior, whether that's for business, personal, your eating habits, whatever, and you've probably been able to hold it together for a day or a week or maybe even a month, but eventually failed and cracked and went back to probably worse than you were doing before. This is the reason. It's because we're trying to basically discipline ourselves and force ourselves and restrict ourselves into doing X, Y and Z. But we're not changing our self image or our identity or our mind, that kind of stuff. So I have this here retraining your mind and in brackets I have thought habits. So thought habit. I don't know if there's a definition for it, but for me it's what you think in a certain situation. Because if we can train ourselves through repetition to think better things in the same situations as before, we will get better results and we'll get permanent results. So let's just do maybe an example or two here. So actually let's do a few more to really get it the point across. So let's go waking up at 5am let's go working out in gym. Let's go feeling fear or worry. Let's just do maybe an example of what most people, including maybe yourself, including maybe me in the past would think in some of these situations. And then we can see what a better thought habit would be because basically what we want to be doing is training ourselves to think better things. So waking up at 5am Ugh, I wish I could go back to bed. You know, training hard hurts. I don't know, feeling fear. I am so worried about X, Y and Z or I'm so fearful of X, Y and Z. So that would be an example and I'm going to change this to red of something that there's not really any red here, but something that is probably not good, something that we wouldn't want to be doing. And if we had those default thought habits or whatever we want to call them for this particular exercise, probably be getting a pretty bad result because those are examples of what not to be doing. And then if we want to do, you know, what do I want to think to myself when I wake up at 5am when the alarm goes off. Waking up early is the single habit that elevates all other habits. You can see that if every time your alarm went off you said that to yourself, you'd be eventually getting a lot much better results than if you're just kind of mentally complaining that oh my God, 5am already. I wish I could go Back to bed. So working out a gym, training hard hurts. That's kind of corny. But something like, if you do not go to failure this set, you have essentially wasted your time. Like, that's. That would be a better thought habit. Okay. Or okay, you've done your reps, now do five more. And then once you've done that, repeat it. Okay, that's a good Tom Platts one. So you've, you're supposed to do eight reps in a set. Okay, now do five more. Now you've got to 13. Okay, now do five more. If you just trained yourself to think about that over and over and over, like, you would do so much better instead of training hard hurts. Okay, I'm in a set. If I don't go to failure, I've wasted my time. Okay, I've hit my eight set, you know, goal or eight rep in a set goal, But I'm not a failure. Okay, do five more. Okay, still not at failure. Okay, do five more until you can't. Last one is like, you know, recite Litany against Fear from Dune. It's a book and a great movie. So Litany against Fear. So every time you're scared or whatever, and I don't know whether it's in business for sales call or a meeting or it's in real life for like approaching someone or whatever, but every time you feel a fear or worry, you know, how am I going to pay for the bills or whatever, you know, I must not fear. Fear is the mind killer. Fear is a little death that brings total obliteration. And you just recite this to yourself, eventually you're not going to feel any more fear. So this is an example of what it takes to retrain. So you could do this on a level like this. You could do this on a very micro level, like, you know, I need to close this client. I'm the best salesperson ever, like, whatever. But you can expect your default or normal behavior to change unless you have retrained your mind and these thought habits. So focus. Like these are good examples and worthy on their own, right? But especially around focus, especially around getting started with the workday because a lot of people just procrastinate, you know, stopping focus when you're in the middle of something, all of that kind of stuff. You know, even you could do it on the flip side with quality. Like, you know, this YouTube video better be a better YouTube video than I've ever made before. And like, that could be your thought habit instead of, okay, I got to post a YouTube video per day. Okay, okay, I got to make a YouTube video per day that beat all of my previous YouTube videos in terms of quality, in terms of energy, conviction, pace, thumbnail title, that kind of stuff. So if you don't do this like your results are not going to be permanent. All of those books, including the Bible are very true. As a man thinketh in his heart, so is he. And if you don't take that seriously and you don't actually change it through repetition, as far as I know, maybe some personal experience and research and reading repetition is the only way to do this. And for every time you do it as a rep, you become more and more internalized or whatever you want to call it and it becomes more and more you and then eventually your mind is just retrained and then you're good to go. So hopefully this video was helpful. I'll see you in the next one.
