In this instructional video, Melanie Gorman, founder of Crownsville Media, explains how social media platforms intersect with SEO and outlines a practical strategy for leveraging both. She clarifies which platforms have a direct connection to Google (Twitter, Facebook, LinkedIn), which do not (Pinterest), and the mixed results of Instagram. Gorman emphasizes that consistent blogging—ideally weekly—is the most effective way to communicate with Google, and recommends republishing each blog post on the chosen social channels and on Google My Business for local SEO. She advises viewers to select a manageable set of social platforms, align content creation habits, and maintain consistent keyword messaging across web properties. The video concludes with calls to action: a newsletter subscription, a free starter gift, and an offer for a half‑hour consultation to help viewers develop a tailored SEO‑social media plan.

Lots of people want to understand the connection between social media and SEO. So in this video, we're going to talk about it, break it down a little bit so you are more informed and you have a sense of what to do and what not to do. Melanie Gorman, I'm the founder of Crownsville Media. We're an SEO content creation company. We do websites and we help like incredibly super cool people get further ahead online. Social media is a huge love it or hate it thing for people, and all of us have our feelings about what social platform we like over others. You may be an Instagram girl, you may be a LinkedIn lover, you may be someone that thinks X, AKA Twitter, is the bane of your existence, but you get all your news from there. Or you may hate it altogether. Here's the reality. Some social platforms have a direct connect with Google and some do not. If you want to use your social to help improve your SEO, you have to understand which ones actually can make a difference and which ones can't. So let's start with the can't list. Pinterest, awesome. Love Pinterest, especially when I'm looking for something to cook or I happen to be looking for a dress to wear. Or vintage Louis Vuitton handbags, awesome. Pinterest is great. It does not have a direct connect to Google. Twitter, Facebook, LinkedIn all are directly connected to Google. So when you put a tweet out there, it can show up on your Google feed for your name or your business almost instantaneously. When you're thinking about where you have influence and where you don't, you want to know those things. Instagram is a little up and a little down. From my experience, because some people are doing enough with their SEO to get users to find them. And so their Instagram is showing highly in search. For other people, all you see is Crownsville Media, 1,100 followers, and then the description. It's not actually showing the latest anything that I've done on Instagram because I haven't really spent as much time building my Instagram followers. So when you're thinking about social, Think about where you're popular. Think about where you have influence. Those things are really important. Then think about the kind of content you want to create. If you're a video person, what you want to do to build your SEO, it's through Instagram, it's through YouTube, it's through TikTok, it's through LinkedIn. Now, as an SEO professional, I'm going to tell you the thing I want you doing is blogging. I want you writing blogs. I want you writing a blog every stinking week if you can do it, right? Because then you're having a regular conversation with Google the way Google wants to have conversations. And blogging and the written word is the most popular way, the most common way, the most consistent way to communicate with Google. Period. End of story. End of sentence. That's the way to do it. So if you're someone who is willing to write articles, even if you'll only do 2 a month, and I know for some of you guys that's a really big lift. The truth of the matter is you will get further with SEO than you will with most anything else you do. So you want to figure out how, how you can use what you're willing to do for blogging and for the written word. And there's lots of ways you can do this, but blogs have the best direct connect to Google. So your SEO plan and your social media plan can come together quite nicely by simply saying, I'm going to write blogs and I'm going to publish my blogs after they go on my website as a second publishing on all my social channels. Once you know where you want to be on social media, then you're going to take the content you're already creating and publish it there as a second or third post. That is the way to get more traction on your social channel. It also tightly connects the keywords from your website and your videos and your articles to your social platforms. So every message about your business is consistent across the web. So going back to the beginning, when you Google your name and you look up Crownsville Media and you verify what you own above the fold for your brand, you want to see your website and all the social channels that you're on and publishing on, on a regular basis. That's the strategic way to think about connecting social and SEO. And when you do it, it just becomes a habit. It's not difficult. My world, what I do is I do keyword research. I decide what blogs I'm going to write. Once I've done that, I publish them on my website. Then I republish them on LinkedIn, Twitter. You get where I'm going? You republish on the social channels that you're on. And I also add them to Google My Business. For anybody that's doing local SEO, anybody that has clients that come to your office doing local SEO, the social channel for you is Google My Business because you absolutely can just republish everything and have a weekly conversation with that service that connects to the Google Map. So your homework for this call, should you choose to accept it, is to decide what social channels you really want to be on. Where are you willing to commit? And what kind of content is required to do a good job on those channels? And then you get into a regular habit of writing or creating and posting again and again. It's a rinse and repeat, and it should be simple for you once you know what you want to do. If you need help with this, any of it, the strategy, picking the social channel, a referral for someone who can help you with your videos. All of that I can help you with. Below in the comments is a subscription link to my newsletter, a free gift for you just to get you started and figure out where you are. And I'm happy to consult with you. I'll spend half an hour, we can chat together and see what you need. And from there, you can make the best decisions about where to spend your money and your time to get the things you want, which is really clients and links and traffic.
