This is a YouTube video titled "Grief Journey" containing a personal narrative from September 30, 2023. The speaker shares their entrepreneurial journey inspired by the profound grief experienced after the loss of their daughter, reflecting on personal growth, overcoming fear, and embracing discomfort in entrepreneurship. The content is a monologue without multiple speakers or mention of Melissa Dlugolecki.
What started my entrepreneurial journey was actually the loss of my daughter, Laden, when she passed at the age of four months. At that time, I was a high school administrator, and I thought it was my forever job. And what I learned was that I am radically responsible for everything in my life, especially my grief. When I took this level of ownership through my grief journey, I really zoomed out and looked at what do I really want? How do I want to create? Because I don't want to work on a school calendar. I don't want to be a politician. This isn't what lights me up. So how can I be in full ownership of how I want to create and how I want to impact in a way that I've never been before? The reason I probably didn't branch out sooner was because I was afraid. And when I lost my daughter, the fear of failure kind of disappeared, because if I could survive that, I could get through anything. The depth of that pain allowed me to put myself in the discomfort that comes with entrepreneurship, because it's uncomfortable. You have imposter syndrome. What if no one buys? What is my ex's sister gonna think? Like, all of these things pop up, but I was in a space where I really had nothing to lose.
