Melissa Dlugolecki realized most people don't notice individual posts or the work behind them. That freed her from caring whether a post gets hired or leads to collaboration, which makes her seem weirdly calm about self-promotion and throws people off.
No one's paying that close of attention to you. It's very humbling. We think we're gonna put a post up and everyone's watching it. They don't see it. They're not even reading that caption we spent hours working on. They're not paying attention to it. No one's waking up saying, how can I hire Melissa Dlugolecki today? I have to go put myself out there. It also teaches me not to get attached, 'cause if I got super attached to someone joining and working with me or not, I'm doing fucking this. I am so unattached and people feel that and they kind of get confused.
