People get distracted at the start of online sessions and when PowerPoint slides appear. Use tools like Ecamm or mmhmm to show your video with slides, and begin with a brief check-in to keep participants engaged instead of multitasking.

There are 2 moments when participants in online meetings or workshops tend to open different tabs, writing their emails or checking something that doesn't belong in this time and not to the topic of the workshop. It's at the very beginning when we actually start and their mind is still somewhere else and they just want to reply to this one email before getting started, and then up they're in the rabbit hole and you lost them. The second moment is when you start a PowerPoint presentation. Then this triggers in most participants, oh, I'm not seen, so now I can do some work and it's not so important anyway. I can listen since they just rely on that. But we are all very bad at multitasking. Hence, avoid PowerPoint at all costs, I would say, or use a tool like Ecamm or mmhmm that allows you to show your video at the same time as the slides and start with a check-in to get them landed.
