A facilitator shares three ways to build psychological safety: be authentic so people sense genuine intent, build personal connection before the session starts, and reach out beforehand with a video or message about what to expect and how to participate.

Psychological safety is a huge topic, so I could speak about it forever. But here are just a few hacks. Number 1 is authenticity. Just be yourself and people will automatically trust you because we realize immediately if someone is just making it up, trying to be funny although they are not funny, trying to be serious although they are not. We can see it because our visual, our facial expression, our body language is not aligned with the words we're actually using. Number 2, don't expect the group to trust you just because you show up and you call yourself the facilitator. No, create a connection beforehand and give them a feeling of your energy. And then either reach out to every participant to just to get to know them and to find a connection, or record a video of yourself and tell them what they can expect in the session and what kind of behaviors you're inviting in. And then you're already quite on the good route. Good luck.
