To guarantee a workshop delivers results, start with your end goal and work backward to map every step that gets you there. Plan the emotional arc too: mix theory, reflection, and group work to keep energy high and spark the feelings you need.

How can we make sure that at the end of the workshop we really achieved what we wanted to achieve and have the action planning or the decision or whatever it is in place? The short answer is backward engineering. If you start with the end in mind, then you can think as a next step, okay, if this is the goal, if I need this as an output at the end, what do I need to do that would then lead to this output? And if then you have the stage before that, what activity would lead to that? And like this, you can work your way towards the beginning of the workshop and then see whether it's still consistent and think of what kind of emotions do you want to spark in between? What kind of energy do you need? And do you have enough variety between interaction, theory, silent thinking, and group work?
