0 to 10k a day in one month? (case study)

In this interview, Nathan Miller talks with his student Alex about Alex’s journey from a traditional insurance job and college to dropshipping e‑commerce. Alex explains his dissatisfaction with a conventional career, his earlier attempts at online income (affiliate marketing, web design), and the desire to escape the “rat race.” He describes his hesitation to join Nathan’s coaching program, citing concerns about investment risk and legitimacy, and notes that the written non‑compete agreement and perceived integrity convinced him. Alex outlines the mentorship experience: structured video lessons, quality feedback, supportive group calls, and a community of high‑earning peers. He shares early performance metrics, including a $4‑5K profit day within a week of launching a product, and reflects on the mental shift from doubt to confidence. The conversation ends with Alex expressing excitement about future growth and the mental peace gained from seeing tangible results.

So this is Alex. This is one of my students. And so I want to kind of get them to know a little bit more about you and your personal history, like before you even started and stuff like that. So like before you got started into even pursuing dropshipping, pursuing e-com, like where were you at? Like, were you in school? Like, you know, what was your kind of like financial situation at? Like, what was that all looking like?
Um, yeah, I mean, before, like, before I started really doing dropshipping, I was working for this, like, insurance company. So it was— I mean, it was good, and I was able to, like, support myself through— I'm in college right now, and I was able to support myself through college through, like, that and some scholarships and stuff. Um, but it was definitely— I mean, it was long hours. I wasn't— I had, like, I had money to spare, but it wasn't— it wasn't anything crazy. And I had always wanted to, I don't know, kind of take it to the next level. I knew that I didn't really want to, like, just go through all 4 years of college and then work for someone for the rest of my life, be stuck in a cube. but yeah. Yeah. I mean, that's kind of where I was at before, but I've been, I'd been trying to like make money online doing like, like I tried affiliate marketing. I tried like doing web design for businesses and all that for like years and years. Okay.
Yeah. So you were like, you were just trying, you know, whatever. So you just really wanted to like escape the rat race, I guess.
Yeah, pretty much. Like it sounds corny, but yeah.
Yeah, it is. Yeah. Yeah. It's like, yeah, Andrew Tate kind of made that a little weird, but no, I used to say that stuff all the time as well. So, Yeah, I totally get that. Um, and like, how did it feel, um, being where you were? Like, what were like the day-to-day things that you kind of like, I don't know if like you had like a bad boss or if you had like things that you couldn't do, you didn't have like free time for certain things. Like, how was your life back then? And like, really like kind of get into like the feeling of like how it was to be at that state.
Yeah, I mean, I'd like to be honest, my work situation before was good. Like, completely, I was definitely lucky to even just having the insurance job. It wasn't— yeah, it wasn't bad. Yeah, I had like— it was— it just felt kind of like purposeless. I was just like kind of spinning my wheels doing like not meaningless work. Like some of it, some of it I felt like it was actually like working towards something, but I don't know, it was just kind of like I was just like doing one thing that, yeah, I don't know, didn't really lead to anything else. It was just to pay the bills. And of course it was like a lot of hours between that and school and I just didn't feel like it was like leading anywhere.
Yeah, yeah, yeah, definitely. I feel that. Like, I also, um, I hate this freaking light. It always auto turns on. Um, before I started e-com as well, like, I had like a good relationship with actually the people I worked with. And like, even if I was like in fast food, which is like not probably as good as insurance is, especially for pay, but like, I still like enjoyed the people I worked with. Like, like I made a light out of it. Um, but yeah, I felt like I was just spinning my wheels. Like I felt like I had all this potential and I saw these other kids doing it and I was like, dang, I wish I could do that. And so, yeah, it kind of sounds like you had a very similar experience, which I totally understand.
Yeah, I know. That's pretty much exactly what it is. Yeah. Seeing other people from my high school, like, I don't know if I told you, but there was like a bunch of group of kids from my high school who like figured out econ and like Really? Posting on Insta, like all the crazy whips and all that.
Yeah.
That's when I was like, I don't know, if it's them, then why not me?
Yeah, exactly, bro. For sure. Yeah. What were you thinking about before joining my specific coaching program? I know you were hesitant about some things that we've talked about. And so could you talk about why you were hesitant and what changed?
Well, I don't even like— I had seen like some success with dropshipping before, like joining the mentorship. I was pretty much just callo ripping and there was always like something that went wrong when my store started to pop off. So I definitely like saw the value in, I don't know, having a more like structured approach that lets you keep a store going for a long time. But I was hesitant about like, I mean, it's it's an investment for sure. You have to consider it with the way the pros and cons. It is like you do have to— it's a significant investment. And I didn't know, obviously, especially in e-com, I feel like you don't know who's legit and who's just another grifter that's going to, I don't know, either take your money and run and not talk to you or even rip your or something like that.
Fair enough. Yeah. And so what do you think made, or from your experience now, like, because I feel like I've seen those people as well. Like, I've seen, like, I've heard stories about, like, Subie and stuff like that. So, like, what's kind of different about, like, what I've done in your experience?
Well, first thing, like, the thing that made me, like, pull the trigger is that you agreed to sign that, like, non-compete. Yeah, like, just, you know, put in writing, be, like, super upfront. Seemed like you're a guy who had, like, a lot of integrity. So, yeah, definitely appreciated that. And then, like, yeah, it's, it's like I don't know. I feel like I'm not just like a brainless callo ripper anymore. Like, yeah, if we learn like creative strategy, like different angles and I don't know, customer avatar research, like all that, like I feel like I totally understand the game better. Understand like how to take someone from scrolling on Facebook ads to going to your website rather than just like throwing up a bunch of random, random trending TikToks and these things.
Yeah, for sure. That's what's up. All right. Um, And so like the reason you kind of decided to join was basically like the non-compete and that kind of like branding stuff.
Yeah, I like, I would say that I think that it was like, it's kind of like a night and day approach to like what I was taught before, which is basically just like, yeah, just like rip as many products that look good off of Caleb and then keep putting ads up and I don't know, kind of do it randomly. But yeah, this was way more structured. Seems like more intentional and you're way smarter about it. So.
Yeah.
Yeah.
And like, what would you say like the, the experience was like kind of like on the inside? Like once you joined, like, you know, there's like some mentorships that are like not very hands-on and stuff like that. Would you say it was kind of like that or was I actually like helping you?
Um, no, I'd say like, first of all, like the, the videos on WAP ended up being pretty helpful. Like some of it, a lot of it was stuff that I already knew relatively, but Yeah, you explained it well. Like, I could totally see, I don't know, someone who has like zero experience, they could go in, get a lot of value out of those. Um, and it wasn't even like, like, it wasn't even like I didn't have to have you like responding to me like every 5 minutes about every little thing, but like when you did provide feedback, it was, it was helpful. And it like, I don't know, it wasn't just like, do this in this scenario. It made me understand like why and like how to apply to future scenarios.
Yeah.
So I would say, yeah, the feedback was like pretty quality. Um, group calls are good. Like, honestly, there's a lot of guys in there that are like, they all want to help each other out like this and stuff. And like, chat, just like, hey, I found this online, it seems helpful.
Yeah.
Yeah. Yeah. So it's been cool.
Yeah. We have a couple dudes in there who are doing like already $100K a month. So, you know, even just hearing from them and what they've been using and kind of things like that, it's always useful. Um, and super helpful for sure. Um, and then I guess now, like, how has the— and I know you've only been running this product for like, what, a week or something like that?
Now it's been like 2 weeks, but it's only been like really printing for like a week.
A week, yeah. So like, how has your life changed? I guess you could talk about like the physical stuff, which probably is not much because you're still like, you know, obviously you kind of just got this going, but like at least mentally, like, how has your life changed?
Um, I don't know. I feel like when you're, when you're kind of going through the trenches and like you're testing product after product and not really seeing any big returns, like there's always just a part of you that's questioning, like, is this ever going to work out? Am I just doing all this for nothing? Am I just like donating all this money to Zuckerberg?
Yeah.
I like, but once you like, once you get that like external validation that like your product actually starts to do well, it is good. I feel like it, like, I don't want to I definitely don't feel like I want to relax now, but it gives me that motivation to know that the work that I put in is actually leading towards something, which is really good.
Yeah, for sure. And I guess financially, you're still waiting on some payouts, I think, right? You said, but have you ever made this amount of money in a day? I remember you talked about you had, what was it, like a $4K profit day? Was that your best so far?
Probably, yeah. Like for this product, like, well, this product, I think that day ended up being like closer to 5. It might've been 5. Oh yeah. Um, but yeah, no, it was pretty crazy. I had like, like I've like made that in a day before or like not quite that much, but like close to it.
Yeah.
But then the thing is like the next day I got to pay out one or the next day, like something else happened at the store.
Yeah.
But now it's like, now I'm, I'm really excited to like not just like stay at that level, but I'm able to, I don't know, it's exciting to me that it doesn't go away. Like I get to do it day after day and like keep improving and keep making it better.
Yeah. Yeah. Like really, like now you kind of have like, you have a solid start. Like you had product market fit like almost, you know, a week in. And so that's like super sick. And now you have a really good platform and you have the cash flow to actually like make it into something that can like actually just be super solid and print for like for a year or more. Um, and so yeah, super solid. Um, super sick. Um, yeah, bro, I mean, I'm super stoked for you. And, uh, yeah, that's pretty much all the questions I kind of have to ask. Um, is there anything else you want— you felt like you wanted to share?
No, I don't know. I mean, I'm super gassed on it. I think that, like, I don't know, the job's not finished.
Yeah, I think, like, it doesn't—
it doesn't feel like— yeah, it doesn't feel like I, like, made it or whatever, but yeah, it's like it's definitely, it's a big difference and it's a lot of like mental peace just knowing that like all the effort does lead somewhere.
Yeah, for sure.
I'm getting a lot of doors open and yeah, it's just the beginning.
Yeah, bro. I mean, yeah, you're on your way to like at least like a couple hundred K months. So that's going to be super sick to see. Um, and yeah, dude, thank you for hopping on the call. Appreciate you.
No, I'm excited for it.
Yeah, for sure, bro. All right. All right. So I think that's, uh, that should be it. Let me just end the recording.
