Nicolas Cole argues that writing a great book isn't enough to sell copies. With millions of nonfiction titles released yearly, success requires matching your book's content with free writing you publish consistently on social platforms. I think a lot of people have this faulty belief around how books actually get distributed, and they think, "All I have to do is write a great book." And the reality is that the book in and of itself is not what moves. A million new nonfiction titles are published every year. So you writing a great book is not what moves the needle. The most important thing you can do, especially if you want to write a book or books, is to have maximum congruence between the book you are writing and the content that you write for free on the internet. The reason The Art and Business of Online Writing has sold so much is because I write about every single topic in this book every single day on multiple social platforms over and over and over and over and over again. And so if you're not willing to do that, then don't expect to move copies. It's almost like the social writing is even more important than the book writing.
