A talk on why being bad at something is actually a sign you can improve. The speaker argues that recognizing your incompetence is the first step toward growth, and that embracing this state of being bad shifts how you approach learning and getting better.
Yeah. My. My reframe here is the worst place to be in any area of life is when you no longer know what needs to be improved. And so reframing being bad at something as you are overwhelmed with all of the things that can be improved, which means you have tremendous upside ahead of you, you know? And so when you think about it like that, you have to realize that being bad and knowing that you're bad at something is the path to getting good at it. Whereas if you're good and then you go, I literally don't know how to get better, well, now you're in a worse position. And it's the prerequisite. And the only reason people fail to break through that is they're worried about other people seeing them look bad.
