This is a YouTube video titled "Can I start posting with zero followers?" containing a monologue or talk recorded on August 19, 2024. The speaker, likely Cole, discusses strategies for monetizing content and explains how social media algorithms distribute writing even for new users with no followers, emphasizing that success is based on merit rather than follower count.
It's very hard to know how to monetize and what will be monetizable if you're not already publishing free things where you can gather data from people. And this is not that hard. Every time I talk about this, people say, oh, well, that's easy for you to say, Cole. You have this huge audience. Yeah, you can look at the data, but I have zero followers. Well, I hate to break it to you, but there was a point in time when I had zero followers, too. Everyone starts at zero. And when you're starting in the very beginning, what a lot of people and a lot of writers don't understand is that the social platform's job is to distribute your writing for you. So it actually doesn't matter how many followers you have. If you have zero followers, the algorithm is still going to show your content to a couple random people, and then based on whether those people interact with your writing, it's going to decide, should I show this to more and more people? It's also why the counterpoint is True. I have 180,000 followers on X and not everything I write gets viewed by 180,000 people. It's a meritocracy. It's not about the number of followers. Everyone starts at zero.
