This is a YouTube video titled "Don't Make THIS Mistake When Writing Your Book" containing a monologue by a single speaker reflecting on their experience writing their first published memoir, "Confessions of a Teenage Gamer." The speaker discusses the mistake of not sharing excerpts during the writing process and advocates for an iterative approach to writing. The content was created in May 2024.
This is the first book I ever published. It was a memoir called Confessions of a Teenage Gamer. Truthfully, I think it's the best thing that I've written in my library. But I made a giant mistake when writing this book. It took me four years to write and publish this book. And the mistake that I made. I didn't share any of the pieces of the book or anything that I was working on until it was done. What I should have done, and this is what I've done for all of my books since, is I should have started sharing excerpts online as I was writing it. It would have allowed me to get feedback, it would have allowed me to test ideas, it would have allow me to see what stories were resonating and instead kept it all to myself. I hid away in my apartment and I tried to do this big grand reveal at the end. It was fine. I still really love the end product and I think it's a great piece of work in my library. But I think I would have gotten there a lot faster if I had taken an iterative approach.
