Ghostwriting Pays You

A creator explains why ghostwriting is worth doing even beyond the paycheck. You learn different writing styles, build your network, and get inside how other businesses actually work.
I've made millions of dollars as a ghostwriter, but ghostwriting pays you in so many more ways than just cash. Okay, here are five other ways that ghostwriting pays you. First is you get paid to learn. You literally just sit there all day. You learn about all sorts of different industries, and then you crystallize that knowledge when you're forced to write about it. It's amazing. It's like going to school for free. Second is you get paid to practice. This is the biggest benefit in my eyes. It is very hard to rack up 10,000 hours as a writer to master your craft. Want to know your fastest path and your shortcut? There you go straight for other people. Now you spend 8, 10, 12 hours a day practicing. This had a huge impact on my personal writing. Third, you get paid to network. I can't tell you how many rooms I got to sit in that I never would have been invited to. I've gotten to meet bitcoin billionaires and Silicon Valley founders and New York Times bestselling authors, all sorts of people. And now they're all in my network. Fourth, you get paid to write in different voices. This is a really important skill. As you go straight for other people, you learn what qualities shape each person's voice, and that is incredibly powerful for your. Your own writing, because then you can consciously create whatever voices you want. And then fifth, you get paid to learn about business. Some of the greatest insights that I've gotten have been from people that I was ghostwriting for. So if you want to get paid in all of these different ways, especially if you want to rack up your 10,000 hours of practice, I really encourage you to get into ghostwriting.
