This is a YouTube video titled "Great writing = the clearest thinking. #shorts" containing a monologue or single-speaker talk recorded in February 2024. The speaker discusses the idea that great writing is defined by clear thinking and presenting new ideas rather than beautiful sentences. There is no indication of multiple speakers or a conversation involving Nicolas Cole.
The biggest unlock for me in the past few years has been that great writing is not really about great writing. The best writing is the clearest thinking because you could. You could have the most beautiful sentence in the world. It's writing that presents new and different thinking. We can debate whether the sentences are beautiful or not, but that's not what makes it good. That's not what makes it special. What makes it special is you're going, no one has ever said this to me before, or no one has ever said it to me in this way before.
