How to Get Paid Upfront as a Writer

If you want to pull cash forward and reduce the likelihood of losing your writing client one or two months into working with them, here's a little trick you can do before you start so when you're pitching them your service, first frame it as a six month engagement. So, for example, I will position you as a thought leader in your industry by ghostwriting content for you on LinkedIn. Then tell them the monthly price multiplied by six months. So let's say you're charging three grand per month. Well, six months, that's $18,000. But then what you can say to them is, but if building yourself as a thought leader in your industry is a priority for you and you're bought into the process, then I'd be happy to give you a month for free in exchange for paying for the full engagement upfront. So instead of charging them $3,000 per month, they pay you $15,000 at the very beginning. Which actually does two things. First, it lets you collect more cash immediately. But second, what it really does is it reduces churn to zero. They've prepaid for six months, which means they're not gonn and leave 30 days later or 60 days later, which is awesome.
