This is a YouTube video titled "How To Grow A Paid Newsletter To $400k Per Year" containing a monologue or presentation from April 2025. The speaker shares strategies for building and growing a paid newsletter, including sending regular emails to paid and free subscribers, using paywalls effectively, and promoting the newsletter daily on social media platforms like X and LinkedIn. The content is instructional and focused on newsletter marketing growth tactics.
Our paid newsletter called write with AI just crossed $400,000 in annual recurring revenue. And if I was starting over, if I was building a new paid newsletter from zero, these are the three things I would do. The first is I would send two emails every single week, I would send the paid issue to all the paid subscribers, and I would send a free issue to the free list and also the paid list. The free issue is essentially marketing for the paid product and you should do this every single week. The second thing I would do is every time I send the paid issue, I would send it to the paid list and I would also send a snippet to the free list. The the reason you do this is because it's giving the free list a teaser. So what you do is you put the paywall around 20 or 30% of the way through the post and you put the paywall right where there's a cliffhanger. So right after you finish explaining something, you're like, oh, by the way, here's my framework for how to do this paywall. Or okay, now you understand this. I'm going to give you a template for how to do this paywall. You want to put the paywall right where there's a cliffhanger because that increases the likelihood that free subscribers become paid subscribers. And the third thing is so simple. It's just simple. Things are complicated. I would write on X and LinkedIn. These are the best platforms for text based content. I would write on X and LinkedIn and I would link to my newsletter every single day. The reason most people's newsletters and paid newsletters don't grow is because they link to it like once a week or once a month. No, you should link to it every day, if not in every post.
