How to Land Your First Ghostwriting Client

Nicolas Cole breaks down landing your first ghostwriting client in three steps: reach out to people you already know, then to their connections who might introduce you, and only then do cold outreach to specific niches like personal trainers or healthcare CFOs.

How do you land your first premium ghostwriting client? I will tell you exactly how. First, make a list of every single person you know who might need some help writing. And if you think I don't know anyone, I'm telling you, think harder. That uncle of yours who's always complaining about how he doesn't understand LinkedIn, that's a potential client. That friend who has a startup, that's a potential client. That coworker who quit their job two years ago to go all in on building an agency of their own, that is a potential client. You already know your first ghostwriting client. You do. You. You just take the relationship for granted, and you think your first client needs to be someone that you've never talked to or never met before. And that's wrong. Second, make a list of every person you know who might know someone else who needs some writing help. So, your old boss, they probably know someone. Your old coworkers, they probably know someone who knows someone who could maybe use your help. Your neighbor who owns a small business. Your family friend who works in finance. All of these people are what I like to call faucets. And if you just ask them, chances are one will introduce you to a potential client. Third, and only once you've exhausted the first two, should you even consider cold outreach. So take your niche, ideally a specific job title within that niche. So, for example, personal trainers in Chicago or healthcare CFOs. Type it into any social platform or search engine. Then sort by people. There you go. You now have a list of infinite people that you can reach out to, and that's how you land your first premium ghost trading client.
