A writer explains how they made money selling fitness and nutrition ebooks. The key shift: stop thinking about yourself and focus on what your readers actually need. That's when the sales started.
The way to think about monetizing writing is to start in reverse and go who is the person I can help? What question do they have and how can I answer their question? With some sort of product? And as soon as that clicked for me I will never forget, I got home from work. It was a Friday. My inbox was flooded with these same two questions over and over and over again and I spent the entire Weekend Writing 215 page ebooks about here are my workout routines and here's what I eat every single day. And on Sunday night I put them up for sale. And then Monday morning I will never forget, I was sitting in our Monday meeting at the full time job I was working at and in my pocket my phone just keeps buzzing over and over and over again and it's just stripe notification after stripe notification. And that first day I sold I don't know, like two grand worth of these fitness and nutrition ebooks and that changed everything for me. That was how I made my first dollar on the Internet. But more importantly, that was the moment that I understood that I am not what matters. The reader is what matters.
