This is a YouTube video titled "How to NEVER miss an opportunity again" containing a motivational talk or monologue recorded on November 6, 2023. The speaker emphasizes the importance of skill development and personal effort as the key to capitalizing on opportunities, rather than relying solely on external chances or favors. The content focuses on self-improvement and readiness to seize opportunities when they arise.
Skill trumps everything. I get emails every day from people who want to be writers and a lot of the emails that I get are people saying I need you to give me an opportunity. The most brutally honest answer is I can give someone an opportunity but if they are not ready for it or if they are not putting in the work to capitalize on it, the bottleneck is not the opportunity or the lack of opportunity. The bottleneck is their own skill or the bottleneck is their own willingness to constantly improve the skill. Opportunities can come your way but you have to be prepared to take advantage of them. And the only way that you can do that is if you're doing the work on your own that nobody's seeing by yourself. And then when someone finally gives you the opportunity, they're like, oh, you're the perfect person for this. Yeah, because I was training and doing that all by myself for two, three years before that.
