A writer explains why chasing popular topics on Amazon backfires. Instead, find underserved niches where less competition means better visibility and sales. The speaker built a bestseller by writing about online writing when few others were covering it.
How to research Best selling topics and monetize your writing Selling on Amazon here's the irony of selling anything on Amazon. If it's already best selling, that means you're walking into a room full of competition. Whereas if you try and think about topics that haven't been written about yet, your likelihood of being successful is way higher. It's just going to take a little longer, but your trajectory and what you're ultimately going to be able to make is significantly higher. And a great example. I wrote this book called the Art and Business of Online Writing. At the time, no one had written a book specifically about writing in the digital age, and when I first published this book, it sold okay. Didn't sell a ton of copies, but that's because no one had really written about the topic before. And now, three years later, this book is selling more this year than it did the year I published it. So opposed to thinking, well, what's already selling, I always like looking for opportunities to write about things that people haven't written about yet.
