Sales Is Education: Say these words & people buy.

In this presentation, Nicolas Cole argues that effective sales is fundamentally an educational process rather than a persuasive one. He explains that objections are signals of a prospect’s lack of knowledge, not factual barriers, and that the seller’s role is to inform the prospect about the problem they face and the category of solution that addresses it. Cole outlines an eight‑step educational sales framework: (1) identify or surface the problem, (2) explain why the problem exists, (3) illustrate the financial and emotional consequences, (4) connect the prospect emotionally to those consequences, (5) introduce the category of solution (not the seller), (6) demonstrate why that category works, (7) enumerate the benefits, and (8) link to the ultimate positive outcome. He illustrates the model with examples from his own experience—ghostwriting for high‑profile executives, building personal brands on LinkedIn, and running digital‑product businesses—showing how educating prospects leads to immediate sales or, at minimum, creates a compounding long‑term relationship where educated prospects return later. Cole emphasizes that the seller must be more knowledgeable about the specific niche, that education flips the power dynamic, and that the ultimate goal of any sales interaction is for the prospect to leave more informed, regardless of whether they buy immediately.
